So this could be pretty destructive...
Here's to hoping someone implements some sort of third party reimplementation that we can hack 1942 to connect to. Or we'll all have to use xFire or gameranger. Or something. Yikes.
1942, Vietnam, BF2, BF2142, Medal of Honor, etc etc etc all hang in the balance here. We'll definitely lose players that don't care enough to figure out why they can't find any servers anymore.
Yup it shuts down server browsers and cd key authentication.....
You may want to put the ip/domain in a server message tuia
wtf..the game will surely die now, no one will be able to make new server cause of this..
tuia, you should put lots of warning messages on server for people to save IP, or to download xfire, instead of putting Stalin quotes.
lets unban all players and enjoy last remaining days
R.i.p bf1942
I am thinking, the favourite server list won't be affected by this update. Because like you all probably know, after updating the server list and clicking stop update after a few seconds, you can still see all of your favourites in the list. So everyone could add as many servers to his/her favourite list, to always be able to join them without xfire or direct ip!
Nah not really because even if you don't update it shows stats in real time so I think that will be gone too. So I think it gives ping 9999. But if you add them to favourites you can atleast see the ip i guess

Sounds a good idea
But what if there is a new server?
Un installed the game?

I think it also may freeze the application for a while when you will press update button.
You could always add the server manually, but there would be a problem for new servers: nobody knows they are there and so noone will join them, so we will have to rely on the biggest servers right now: Moongamers, SiMPLE, -=aX=-, Schindlers List and BiHnet. :-/
Here's a basic server list with IPs:
1. --=[ aX ]=-- (CD and Origin) / 109.71.69.254:14567
2. MoonGamers 1942 (CD/Origin) / 173.208.83.19:14567
3. Schindler's List powered by KSU / 108.61.254.235:14567
4. BF1942 modded midway / 195.154.251.132:14567
5. Oz Wake [CD 1.61/Origin 1.612] / 108.61.255.31:14567
6. Schindler's Dogfights 24/7 / 109.169.20.199:14569
7. HKHP El Alamein (CD&ORIGIN) / 173.236.29.179:14567
8. BF.MAXNET.ua 79.171.120.137 + / 79.171.120.137:14567
9. Schindler's List Modded Maps / 108.61.255.8:14567
10. BiHnet BF 1942 cd+origin / 195.222.33.242:14567
11. EA 117 - DC Fan Favorites / 8.12.64.130:14567
12. Schindler's List: Luftwaffe / 109.169.20.199:14570
13. Schindler's Expansion Packs / 109.169.20.199:14568
14. |BWT| Badewiese / 85.10.240.98:14567
15. FHSW-Europ.ucoz.de v0.51 No Key / 78.142.142.6:14567
Bye Bye BF1942.
Hello BF1942 !
will be a sad day.
Guys i don't catch u. What does it mean?
Bye Bye BF1942.
Hello BF1942 !
Huh?
Guys i don't catch u. What does it mean?
Simply means this game will die forever!
Game won't die as long as we have communities such as this one to keep it alive.
And look at the good side: if most people (mostly Origin players) leave the game due to not being able to find servers in the online server list, it will cleanse the game. Meaning all the noobs will leave, and the veterans will stay behind. The game will be purified, in other words.
Plus even if we don't have any in game server list after that date, we can still use sites such as GameTracker, BF Tracks and HSLan to browse through servers.
On BFMods someone had the bright idea to create a ''join from URL'' tool, which can be used as a backup to join servers. Here it is: http://bfmods.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=595&p=4239#p4239
It is also quite easy to create shortcuts of your favorite servers on your desktop, all you need to do is change the target in the Properties window.

Ok I'm stupid but I don't have game spy so how will I be affected and when I had origin I used origin to find servers so how is game spy going to effect all this.
I think, they mean the bf1942 inside game searcher, so with xfire it will still work but the inside searcher won't find any servers. If i am correct.
Xfire ftw!!
Ingame browser will stop working, its gamespy servers that runs this thing
I think it will be a significant drop, its already hard as it is to get a server going
As i said xfire ftw
Yes for sure xfire is good, but where does it get its server info from? if it collect its data from gamespy servers then it dont do much good
edit: found some info about xfire
We track every time someone joins your server via their Xfire client. Once enough Xfire users have joined your server we recognize it as a “good” server. Then it should be added to the “All” servers list.
We will send out a query every week to verify your server is still active.

Did gamespy existed in 2003/04?
Yes, since 1999 according to this http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1227460p1.html
Why is this closure happening, then? It's a business thing

I think infantry servers should be fine since they have a set amount of regulars, but the bigger servers relied on casuals to fill it up. Sounds negative but if all the origin players leave I can't see myself playing with only 10-20 other people. Anyone that has been on any of the bf1942 community forums such as simple or moon will be able to figure out how to join, but for the majority
Hopefully EA does something.
xfire? i never used ingame browser... too damn limited!
before Xfire... i used ASE and when it died, i had to move to xfire...
not the end of the world if people search for alternatives!
hmm what about making 128 slots server only for this game? Or 2 servers
So all players will play there only
First we have to close some servers slowly to make players adapt to that.
It's a fucking shame...
if you like to add your server to the toolbox join function,
just say a word.
easy going with Toolbox. click on liveviewer, choose the server and click the join button.
