Taking a view of the community, I just understood that we all celebrate the same holiday but I don't know is there a difference in the way to celebrate this holiday in another cultures.
In Russia, there should be a crowd of people gathered together around the table. It's a good chance to visit your relatives and old friends from year to year, take a rest, because almost everyone has a short one week vacation, and congratulate each other. The table should be served with a lot of dishes but it's necessary to serve champagne, mandarins, a special fish meal called "herring under a fur coat" and Olivier salad. It's a good tradition to wait for the president's greeting speech and the twelve beat of the Moscow Kremlin chiming clock. When it happens, everyone should congratulate each other, drink champagne and make a wish in his mind. This New Year night is also good to be on a visit to your relatives, let off fireworks at the street and congratulate children at the morning, because we need to put the presents under the New Year tree when they sleep at night to let them believe it was Ded Moroz.
What is your way to celebrate this holiday in your country?
There are a lot of ex-Yugo people. I know, it will be like a challenge for them.

Similar is here Friends and/or family and lots of different kinds of drinks and dishes too. Oliver salad is called "Russian Salad"(Ruska salata) here, and it is also present on the table
I saw that picture I have a similar picture, but with a Ninja Turtle As far as i can remember it was Leonardo Those were the days...
I also know that Yugoslavian Santa Claus is called Deda Mraz, but "mraz" in Russian means "scum".

I know Joint told me. Sometimes I think that joint has something to do with The Ded Mraz

Joint is from Ukraine and Ukraine is close to ex-Yugo territory, so who knows how he can earn on the side...
I've never heard of a "New Years tree" before, but we still have the Xmas tree up, so it would be crowded lol.
Usually there is a gathering of friends and family at a home, a restaurant/bar or some other place. New York has that giant ball thing, but it's lame. The whole nice has music, drinks, food, dancing, etc. When the clock hits midnight, people drink and kiss their spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other, sometimes fireworks depending where you live.
New years day is pretty much dead because everyone is tired and/or hungover lol. But there are also parties and a few tradition things. Many places that actually experience winter (not Florida, Arizona, other losers), have these things called Polar Bear Plunges! During the late morning/mid-day, people get together to jump into the frozen lake where a large square of ice has been cut out. They actually do this a few times in the winter. It is to raise money for charities like Special Olympics. This year should be good. It's going to be extra cold and extra windy
in Ukraine we drink vodka and eat fatty foods, the last unpuked person winning the trip for more vodka with adventures in hobbits stile

We have a proverb: send a fool to get a bottle of vodka and he will get only one bottle.

In Russia, people do the same on 19, January. It's a Christian holiday. I think it's stupid.

We celebrate New Year much like everyone else, it's a get together of family and friends, we drink champagne, eat some raisins and make our wishes. In New Year's day we arrange a family lunch in a restaurant.

I wouldn't be able to say how the French celebrate this new year.
I, for one, was in the middle of nowhere alone with a unknow Polish couple and a small sampling bottle of Jack Daniel's.
Fuck me...
