Ppl liked the game after playing on the origin servers and bought the game for 10 €/$
Most logical explanation to me. Or maybe it's the huge 100+ player servers that drew a sea of noobs into the game, which is good, because the public scene was starting to die.

They heard I maybe getting the band back together.
school started, hundreds of kids depressed, when they come home they play bf
I think they heard about Timmos vs moon match
nice but all players left :S 7000 gone for stupid COD and CS:GO
What's up with the BF1942 free ? Can I play on their servers with my version ? Can they play on ours with their version ? I don't want to install another bf but that's frustrating that thousands of new players come and I can't meet them... :'(
Their version is the one with japanese having german weapons like Mauser... ?
More than 1000 people playing the game at 13h30 EST (GMT -5) today, quite impressive. It seems this game, somehow, is regaining activity slowly but surely. Origin really did some good after all.

yes, i was very wrong when i ten months ago predicted that 1942's origin death would be imminent. i saw a peak of roughly 1250 today, excluding ghost server lines ... probably the highest ive seen in 2013. but some of this is perhaps due to october - november being main online gaming season
high numbers by themselves arent necessarily good. i miss pre-november 2012 where a little skill could be found here and there on pub servers. the majority of current servers are mostly a farce, skill-wise, in my opinion. pretty sad and no fun for a lot of the old-timers
last "big" non-origin server standing is simple. cudos to tuia for insisting on quality
Well then let's just hope the noobs of today will hang on to BF1942 long enough to replace all the aging veterans. Remember that in 2002, most if not all the players on the SiMPLE forums and other established communities were exactly like the sea of noobs found on the Origin and hybrid servers today. With years of experience they learned to master the game.
However, I insist that the communities that saw the birth of Battlefield 1942 set a list of guidelines and settings for servers in order to preserve a quality clientele, as you've mentionned in your post.
CD Version, v1.61, PunkBuster, Pure servers in Vanilla and the XPacks (RTR + SW), UnPure servers with PB for mods (DC, FH, FHSW, etc). That way the old schoolers can regroup more easily instead of accumulating ridiculous 6-7 KDR statistics in the Origin/Hybrid servers.

I figured more people download the game because of Battlefield 4 players forced to use origin.
Hi
Thank you for the server fix, i uploaded it on our dedicated server box, and now both Origin download players and original version players can play together.
One question i have and sorry if it has already been asked, punkbuster, i can see the new version doesnt support it so i had to turn it off at the server to allow origin players to join. Is there any fix around this as i would prefer to have it running ?
Many thanks
As far as I know, there is no fix for PunkBuster. Not sure if it is possible to disable PunkBuster kicks by memory violations. But if you want to use it effectively, you have to tell your players to get BF1942 v1.61 and download PunkBuster.
iptables -I OUTPUT 1 -d 69.10.30.248 -p udp --dport 29910 -j DROP
Although this may not be needed if/when s[sk] updates his server files.
Download: http://team-simple.org/download/bf1942_ … 612.tar.gz
So have these files been updated already or we still need to execute those console commands?
Hi
Correct me if I'm wrong. I want to set up a server with the following features:
- 128 slots
- 1.61b (CD RETAIL) and 1.612 (ORIGIN) users allowed to play altogheter
- showing the key hashes of all players
- mods supportSo are these ALL the things I need?:
1 ftp://ftp.games.skynet.be/pub/misc/bf19 … .6-rc2.run
2 ftp://ftp.games.skynet.be/pub/misc/bf19 … .61.tar.gz
3 http://team-simple.org/download/bf1942_ … 612.tar.gz
4 http://team-simple.org/download/bfserve … hed.tar.gz or http://team-simple.org/download/bfserve … hed.tar.gz (what's the difference between them btw?)
5 http://team-simple.org/download/BFRemot … atched.zip or http://team-simple.org/download/BFRemot … atched.zip (what's the difference between them btw?)6. Do i have to run this as well, or the above patches are modified to do this:?
iptables -I OUTPUT 1 -d 69.10.30.248 -p udp --dport 29910 -j DROPAre there any problems with managing the server when the players count is higher than 80 or 100 players?
Hi Waldek!
Yes, those are all the things you need. Difference between BFServerManager v2.01 and BFServerManager v2.0 final, is that v2.0 final, although an inferior version, recognizes special characters in player names, outside the ASCII range I believe. There is a changelog text file referring other differences between them.
You have to create that rule to display keyhashes with current server binaries.
There are some problems, around 80 players BFServerManager will crash, it's not properly patched, yet, and server will not display in in-game server browser list when it has more than 64 players, if it's displaying keyhashes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
They haven't been updated. I will finish updating them tomorrow, so they display keyhashes normally.
Thank you for your answer Tuia! Is there any chance you could also fix the server manager crash issue or there is no way to do that?
We start hosting Forgotten Honor campaign in week or two so it would be very necessary to have everything stable with more than 80 slots.
Patched BF1942 Linux v1.612 server files coming up tomorrow, I have to double check it.
I've patched some time ago a bit more BFServerManager v2.01, had to swap lots of memory addresses, to reserve space for all 128 players details. It did not crash with more than 80 players, however banned words filter still crashed BFServerManager, so it had to be disabled. I just could not find what was the problem with banned words.
I would be glad if we can try your BFSM then. We have just to tell admins to not enable the word filtering.
BTW. I posted another problem here: http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic. … 980#p48980
BTW2. When the key-hashes are not displayed, then every random player can issue ingame commands like !restart or !runnext what ruins the gameplay. How to disable these commands??

No, as long as in BFServerManager in the Users tab you don't leave empty fields in keyhash column, no one can use those commands from typing in server chat, when keyhashes are not displayed.
Patched BF1942 Linux files:
bf1942_lnxded-1.612.tar.xz
bf1942_lnxded-1.612-all_clients.tar.xz
Only bf1942_lnxded.static file, for now. I'm going to patch .dynamic files and add a readme file to packages, later.
750 people online at once as of July 6th, 2014 at 1:00 PM EST (GMT -5).
Good thing R A G E is back on.

No, only 600, you're also counting fake players and fake/double server entries. The numbers I've been referring all along have been without those.
Global BF1942 population is at an all-time low. 600 at peak on a Sunday is very low.
