levels of fog, mist or view distance

Hi,

So, if I am not mistaken while back I read something in game along these lines:
"different download versions of BF1942 have different levels of fog"
I am not sure about this being true because I definitly like to believe it as sometimes I am being pursued in an airplane. Flying high and far away when I start seeing bullets whizz by.
I change course to get the plane behind me whilst flicking through the different views and it seems as if these bullets come from further than I can see the airplane.
Just wondering if anyone knows more about this. I am running a copy of BF1942 from oldgamesdownload.com.

Thanks for reading.

Re: levels of fog, mist or view distance

HiHo!
The fog radius setting is server-side, there is no difference between different versions of bf1942 games.
If someone shoots at you while you're out of the fog, they're probably either being helped by their teammates, signaling where you are, or they just saw you before you went out of sight and are shooting where you're probably at.
Or, unfortunately, they're using illegal things.

Re: levels of fog, mist or view distance

It’s also important to understand that your perspective in the Chase Front or Chase Rear (when spectating) while in a vehicle is misleading. The camera position can  significantly reduce your effective view distance and can create an illusion that an enemy is shooting you from out of fog.

For example: If you’re in Chase Front, then you are losing the entire length of your plane PLUS the distance from the propeller to the camera. That could be ~35 ft of view distance lost. Meanwhile, your enemy only needs to render in your tail or engine smoke to know where shoot.

Additionally, due to latency, your enemy sees where your plane WAS, not where your plane currently is on your screen. I’m sure that could add 1/2 to an entire plane length of view distance discrepancy depending the angle of attack.
