BF1942 crashes to desktop with notification sound

Hi,
My game always gets to the black screen and then crashes with a notification sound. I've got all the compatibility boxes checked as well as run as admin. I never get to see the notification box.
One interesting thing is if I tick run in 640x480 on the compatibility tab it will run albeit a bit messed up.
I checked if my monitor can actually display 800x600 and it can.

OS is windows 10.

Re-install drivers
Re-install game
Check if some apps maybe influencing it. Like multiple desktops etc. On win 10 it doesn't like being folded

Did it run good before with same installer?
