IMO once you leave the main your fair game no matter where you are. Say on Bocage your in a tank by the barn. If you go back to the pad for repairs, your still fair game while on the pad.

I think musen gave best explanation on home base (HB) and rape - raping HB is not allowed to allow players to respawn. HB is not safe house where you can hide (shoot with sniper/tenk then saying im in HB). But, in that context, plane flying low over HB can be shoot down imo (lots of AA in HB do defend, why are there AAs in home base then?). Also in that context all vehicles can be destroyed as soon as they start moving because main function of baserape rule is to allow players to respawn without being killed instantly. Looking forward to hear your comments...

Sry ram attacking a tank that has just moved would be regarded as main attack unless it starts shooting,it is there to allow vehicles to leave the base not just for spawning only

i wouldnt agree with this, rules are taken from bf liga rules, and units must be able to leave main base without being killed, exception is active aa or wespe, even i would say anything that fires out from main to enemy can be killed, but the main idea of the rule is to enable opponent to have any chance to attack, not to be stuck and raped in main base
