While modding a couple of days ago I came up with an idea on how to use some of the custom objects found in maps such as Liberation of Caen, Raid on Agheila and Coral Sea in all Battlefield 1942 maps, server side.
For those familiar with the file and folder structure in Battlefield 1942, there are some objects that are strictly map side meaning those objects will only run in the maps I named above. Since the objects are map side, they cannot be used in another map without adding the files for this object to the map, which requires a client-side modification.
Therefore, I am proposing a fix which will eliminate the need to add some map side objects to other maps in order to use them. When added to the main vanilla Archives, the map side objects will stop being map side and will be able to be used universally, in every map. The custom objects I am talking about are:
In bf1942:
- The JU88A bomber on Battle of Britain
- The Ju88A ammo + supply object from Battle of Britain
- The destroyable factory from Battle of Britain
- The radar towers from Battle of Britain
- The siren sound from Battle of Britain
- The modified Jeep skin from Battle of Britain + it's horn sound
- The Pak40s from Liberation of Caen
- The CDN rafts from Liberation of Caen
- The ParaTrooperSpawnObject from Liberation of Caen which allows soldiers to spawn in the air
- The Hiryu and Hornet plane carriers from Coral Sea, which cannot be moved and spawn airplanes at a faster rate than the normal carriers
In XPack2 (SW):
- The Flettner helicopters from Raid on Agheila
- The Flettner ammo and repair supplies from Raid on Agheila
- The Greyhound tanks from Raid on Agheila
- The MunitionsPanzer from Raid on Agheila
- The Krupp Anti-Tank APC from Raid on Agheila
- The MG-mounted Jeep from Raid on Agheila
- The RocketPlatform from Raid on Agheila
There are also a bunch of static objects from these maps that could be added to the main mod Archives, however as statics cannot appear in server-side mods these aren't really a priority for now.
As mentionned, once the fix will be finished and published for the general public, server admins will be able to use the above listed PCOs (Player Controllable Objects) in any map they desire. A few RFA files will need to be modified for this to work (on top of my head, Objects.rfa, standardMesh.rfa, Sound.rfa, Texture.rfa, Menu.rfa, as well as the respective RFA files for every map which contains custom objects).
As lots of files need to be modified, I will release this fix as a whole new patch of the game (BF1942 v1.612b). Stay tuned for more updates about the current status of the fix and if you have any questions, ask them here.

Then maybe include the fix as a whole game download, instead of a patch (with all the fixes previously in the SiMPLE installation of the game)?
One could simply update the current full installation of the game to have the custom object fix with all the previous fixes already in that installation version (widescreen support, 128 man servers, fixed crash exploits, kill Player server command, auto favorited servers, reworked HUD).

I would be prepared to download that.
Would be fun tbh
...
Isn't that allready done in the simple MainGameDownload?
https://team-simple.org/download/Battlefield_1942.zip
...
would be cool!
but this is in fact not a 'fix'
its practically a new mod
you could also add other objects to the archive if you like.
i'd love do drive a donkey over Aberdeen while evading tanks
Damn, nice necroposting guys

What if we make a sever that sends updates regularly to the clients?
call the mod bf1942 2.0
It would add new weapons now and then. kinda like the changes Epic games makes to Fortnight
would be great i think

I doubt u can make such a system in this game.It could make server lagy for sure and probably crash him also.

I think this system wouldn't be implemented in game itself. More likely some external program for bf42 that would be synced with some file hosting, to download and update client files for various mods.

Like in a mod form that can check a server for updates, either for downloads or just per usercase.
A GFX update is all I can think of, and Shing is already doing it.
Automatic server to client mod/map downloads are probably out of reach, but a great idea nonetheless.
What an update should fix or add is:
- the crappy prone animations
- terrible netcode optimization and inconsistent regs
- an anti cheat program that actually works (never going to happen)
- fix the spectator camera to add a first person cam
- possibly build on the screenshot taking capacity of BF1942 and build a demo recording system
- the sounds, which are terrible
- support for new game modes, like free for all
But none of this will change, because no one cares. Especially not EA.
@tommy, it would be an external program. And server lag is no issue if you do it properly.
But ofc playerbase is the problem.... @bud
...
You mean something like the Pixelfighter Toolbox?
With this tool you could Download everything what was needed. Maps, Patches, Punkbuster, Sounds, TexturePacks, Mods, etc.
And it shows you what you have and what you need, (Version of a map, Red, Green).

From here? > http://www.pixel-fighter.com/modules.ph … forum&f=40
Btw. All Languages supported, and you can also connect directly to GameServers.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooh.

nah, its been the same over all the years. I started modding around 2008 and seen masterpieces from some guys, but however good it was nobody had the energy to download and play the mod and so it become a dud.
yes, I'v noticed the same. Luckily there are still events for some mods
I really enjoyed the last GC mod event
