Requesting air support!

I never understood when to use one or the other.

I need air support when there is an enemy tank i want to be bombed.. (and i am infantry calling air support)

or

I need air support for the airplane I am dog fighting?? (another airplane or flak)

I suppose it's the second, but I have always used it in both manners.

It's mainly used in the first case you state, as infantry unable to advance or needing reconnaissance, but can perfectly be used as a plane needing escort or bombing
