You can use an xbox controller on PC so I don't see why you couldn't use it with 42. I've set up 42 for use with an analog controller before. I found it clumsy and not a good interface for the game. But it can be done.
Currently I use a Merc Stealth + Trackball with most of my bindings out of default. Setting bindings is a step process. Set one at a time and save, if you hit an error find where that key or input is used elsewhere and change it.

answer: quite a bit!
but i find it hard to believe a person who can be fooled into thinking the earth is flat can be helped at all
