BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

You can add shaders to most games with ReShade. It works on most maps, but some of them are crashing with shaders on. I hope it will be stable with newer versions.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

It`s sad that EA keeps releasing new CoD-look-a-like poor Battlefields.

Instead another DLC they could do the same stuff that Serious Sam developers did: keep old game mechanics and update textures and models to HD standard

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Yes, i agree... though, we have a lot of tools to make the game better, i'm surprised no one made a little remaster yet. I will make a new topic, maybe someone will make a team for it.

Sorry for still not releasing the "mod" yet. But i'm still waiting for new version of DX wrapper and ReShade. The rendering at far distance is still weird and the game is crashing hard. At least i made a new preset...

Some screenshots. I will try to lower the bloom for the final version.

Shing, that is very interesting. I did a little remaster of BF1942 based on the Merciless mod, copying the modified textures to some maps, making sure they would be content-check approved. You may want to check it: http://team-simple.org/download/Battlefield_1942.zip

With HD textures it will be even more awesome.

If you`re going to create such mod, can you transfer sten & bren from DLCs to desert maps by the way? smile

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Noice, i'm actually not an experienced modder, so idk... :S

Thanks tuia. Tbh, i didn't notice much difference (i only tested 2 maps), but the HUD is much clearer. I wouldn't even go for approved content-check. I'm sure you don't want to split the community, but i would like to see a mod for it. Did you guys hear about Combat in Flames mod? It has horrible new textures, but the particle effects are so much better.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/combat-in-flames
It would be nice to borrow those effects from the author or make a new one (anyone please?)

And we have other good mods too like cloud system:
http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1508

Or better ragdolls:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx5Gi4Hnjg0

Sadly, i don't have any modding experience, i only made custom maps, but Battlecraft isn't working well for me in W10. I wanted to make models too, but it's so hard with zero experience... sad
It would be nice to add more buildings, vegetation without touching the original gameplay much. Someone could make more detailed vegetation, vehicle models, better textures too. That's why i said, i'm surprised there are no graphic mods for this game...
List we can do:
- Better view/rendering distance
- More detailed models, more vegetation and other models on maps
- Better skybox/clouds
- Better particle effects
- Better animations
- Higher resolution HUD
- Shaders, bloom effect, tonemapping, sunrays, etc (Currently not stable, but one day...)

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Been thinking of making a simple mod or perhaps just some maps for the custom map server. It think it doesnt have to be so complicated, but more like small refinements and such. Could be a community project if enough members are interested.

Too much smoke and effects is not good for the graphiccard btw, nearly melted some cards while experimenting with that smile

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Would be nice to have client side modified textures and some small stuff, which permits a game on Simple server without any restrictions. Thus, only replacing some of the low quality textures on High Definition.
Cause I doubdt any "heavy" mod will gain popularity nowadays, without media support of official dev.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

I agree with making maps, the problem is who will play them? The custom maps server is almost always empty. If a SiMPLE mod/map pack is to be made, then we should make sure that the custom maps server at least picks up more traffic between the time the maps are made and the release of the map pack or mod to the public. IMO, to make the custom maps server more active, weekly events should be held. Otherwise it's not worth the effort of making new maps if nobody will play them.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

I just tried Combat in Flames mod and it has compatiblity for original servers too... I didn't know that we can play on servers with modified ground textures, particle effects and sound effects. So "we" could make a mod for original servers and a more heavy version with modified maps and more tweaks. Who knows, maybe more player will join if the game looks much better. Idk, i don't want to split the community though.

Anyone tried the CiF mod? It's not compatible with the new exe? Some particle effects and water isn't loading for me no matter what i try.
I tried a map with clouds on tuia's client too. The transparent clouds are moving nicely. I made a screenshot about moving clouds, "GENIUS".

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

I think improving texture quality or shaders can only do so much for a game; especially without releasing inofficial patch files. I kind of stand pessimistic towards the idea that more people would play the game just because you update textures and shaders or the weather system. But if you are willing to invest time in it, you might as well try.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Have you tried bloom enb series for bf1942? It works well on Simple servers, and really looks nice, and doesnt give lag. It can be edited to have better things, ive tried to add water reflections, but it reflected even the minimap! But other things could be done like adding shadows, bloom, not sure about lensflare.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEhnqh7NX40
http://bfmods.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=188
Looks better in-game, especially in high resolution and with custom textures.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Yes i tried it a while ago, even made a video about it... the reflection is really nice, too bad it's not static and reflects the HUD too... the bloom isn't that good quality so it makes the screen a bit blurry, but better than nothing.
Anyway, i found out why is the game crashing with the directx wrapper and reported it to the author. Hope he can fix it.

Re: BF1942 Graphics mod (Not stable yet)

Guys, is there a way to change at least some textures for online servers? Tuia changed some, like helmets, flags, HUD... I started to make a high resolution texture pack, but i can't use any of them (checked most). I have to test every texture one by one? Or i should just give up?

Not sure if i will ever finish it for single player mode, but there are some screenshots if you are interested:

Here is what you should do. SiMPLE is heavily linked to the bf league. Talk to the admins there and let them look into your mod. If they give you an ok, you should be good to go.

Edit: This mod is awesome. I would love to play with it, but if its not allowed at league doesnt make sense to me to use it.
edit2: Misunderstood your q, but if its possible without excluding players, you should still ask the admins at bfleague first before investing too much time.

A high resolution texture pack doesn't give anyone an advantage, it's kind of like turning off lightmaps. What is the problem if he doesn't compete in BF-League? Let him use the texture pack how he likes. There's no need to ask admins anything as long as he is not part of the competition on BF League. BF-League has no authority on SiMPLE. Yes a lot of players from clans play on SiMPLE but that's it.

Nice texture pack btw.

Yep that's my concern. Does it give any unfair advantage? The reason I was talking about league is also that most of the future users might be playing in the league.

tuia made a client with some modified textures and i can join with it

I remember a mod called "Combat in Flames". It had some modded textures too and i remember playing with it on the servers. So it's possible.

Nope. This client has modified helmet and flag textures inside texture.rfa as i can see. (Look more realistic).
http://team-simple.org/download/Battlefield_1942.zip

But the file size is almost the same, so maybe this is the trick to do it. I can't make a compatible HD pack then, because the textures i'm using is like 2048x2048 or even 4096x4096. So yeah, it's a totally different file size.

Im not gonna download the whole game as i already have it installed. I dunno how or if tuia made some special sauce, normally the checksum gets corrupted even if one just open the rfa, and then save it again without even doin any changes to it.

I'm glad you like it already... at the moment there are only about 70 new textures and texture.rfa contains about 1500 texture files... So it will take a while to make something significant. I will release it, when i'm done with at least the most important textures. big_smile
