Hi,
I have many BF42 mods that necessitate 1998 to work (otherwise it crashes on map loading), namely Desert Combat Extended amongst others. However, under Windows 98 compatibility mode, it's impossible to enforce widescreen with the numerous post-Gamespy/widescreen patches (tried them all), compared to XP SP3 or whatever. Is it a doomed cause?
Serious willing to part with 10 bucks for a solution. :S
Regards.
Matt

http://team-simple.org/download/
Download :-
Battlefield 1942v1.61 Retail executable patched
and
Battlefield 1942v1.612 Retail executable patched
If you are playing from original CD's of the game or .............
Battlefield 1942v1.61 Origin executable patched
Battlefield 1942v1.612 Origin executable patched
If you are playing from the EA Origin version.
Both of these patches already includes widescreen support in the patch. If that does not work PM me and I will tell you how to modify your Video.Con files to allow the widescreen to work.
Good luck
Hi,
Thanks for your interest, however I have already tried this. The mods (DCX, some maps of other mods there and there) really need Win 98 compatibility mode to function, otherwise I get a 30-ish percent "BF1942.exe has stopped".
The exe's you linked seem to enforce Windows XP SP3 mode. I could not untick it.
When I do, I lose the resolution-change ability, making the game tremendously graphically horrible on a 27 inch ROG Swift.
I have also tried the .con changes. Can't say I've been much successful, even under non-compatibility mode. Maybe it's me.
Regards.
Matt

So does it start to load a map and then fail?
Does it happen at the same place on all maps?
Is this a fresh install of BF1942?
Will the game run in single player mode?
It crashes at around 15 or 30 percent.
Yes it's a fresh install.
No it crashes in either singleplayer or multiplayer.
It depends of the mods. Some run fine, others not.
FH used to only run in W98 until someone made a patch.

Did you install from CD's ?
What OS are you running?
Which Mods are working and which are not?
I do have some ideas but more information will be required
Hey Matt,
What you're dealing with here is a compatibility issue. Various mods will not work with Windows Vista /7/8/10. However, a couple of fixes have been made. The best one is called BF1942CF.exe. Once installed, it will fix all the map loading crashes. Just follow my instructions.
Download link: http://www.filedropper.com/bf1942cf
Instructions:
Download and run BF1942CF.exe.
Press "Yes" if you agree to the terms or "No" to cancel the installation.
Turn off the Windows Compatibility Mode on the BF1942/Mods shortcuts.
Run BF1942.exe as an administrator.
Battlefield 1942 is now ready to play (Windows will automatically apply the fix).
If you want to uninstall, go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program and uninstall the "Battlefield 1942 Windows Vista/7 Compatibility Fix".
Let me know how you did!

Hello,
Windows 7 64 bits + 2x GeForce GTX 980 with latest drivers.
Yes, disc version. Tried Origin one, didn't launch. So far Desert Combat Extended doesn't work at all, some other mods it depends on the maps, for example Merciless Creations, specifically Kharnov. Widescreen not working at all is a bigger issue atm.
Widescreen patches that allow new resolutions in-game do work, but the choice is limited. For example, with the team simple patch, I can only go up to 1280x1024 in 4:3.
I tried the various widescreen fixes, I'm still suck in 4:3. Note that the following is my monitor's resolution, but I tried others like the popular 1920x1080x32x60. Tried with the original .exe and this one: http://www.moddb.com/mods/fhrmod/downlo … tch-for-fh

N.B. tried read-only on/off, setting refresh rate to 0, tried many other resolutions... still stuck in 4:3

I am not a techie. let me repeat.. I am not a techie. Matt, I am wondering, since you have tried all the BF settings...perhaps the video card itself is resetting the game settings? also I have learned that after you set the video con files, you have to also set them as 'readonly'
just a thought..but wth mine still is NOT working with new laptop....cant wait for newer laptop to see how it does...

Just tried disabling Bit Defender, and the game started in widescreen.
Doesn't fix the fact that I need to be under 98 to play some mods. Will try the aforementioned BF1942CF.exe.
Can't find a working link, tho. =/
[EDIT] Finally found a link, sadly DCX still crashes. Oh well.

Okay I need to backoff Windows 10 and rethink my 42 issue. It maybe my laptop gaming rig.
I went from this:
Monitor 1920x1080@60ghz
I7-3840qm, 2.80ghz
G.Skill 32gb pc3-12800 (overkill for gaming but son uses for video editing)
NVidia GeForce gtx 680m 4mb
Samsung ssd 850 evo 500gb ssd - primary
to this:
MOnitor 1366 x 768
I5 - 5200u_ 2.20ghz
12.0 gb ram ddr3@798mhz
Generic IntelHDGraphics 5500 (onboard!!!!)
500gm OCZ SSD
So..I am now blaming my stupid off the shelf laptop.
Custom built to be in the mail in about 2 weeks we shall see if any difference on the battlefield!

Hi
Ok firstly 1280 x 1024 is a 5:4 resolution not 4:3 or widescreen and if you edit the Video.con files they must remain in read only mode. Looking at your files and reading what you have said it all seems a bit of a mess with multiple patches mods downloads all being applied at the same time. Where I would go with this now is to completely re-install the game from discs fresh installation keeping none of the current version. Make sure you download and install both the 1.61 and 1.61b patches for the game as I have known this to cause problems when later patches are applied if these have not been installed, don't ask me why.
Download and apply the patch files as listed in my first reply and focus on getting the vanilla game working first, once you have this the rest is fairly easy.
Do NOT edit the Video.con files this should all be taken care of by Tuia's patches and should be changeable in the game menu.
Good luck

I think the SLI cause the issue? !!
My SLI is turned off.
I just reintalled, and applied the Team Simple patch. However, my max resolution is now 1280x1024. That's not HD/widescreen.
Intended or bug?
Basically I installed:
BF1942
Road to Rome
Secret Weapons (installs 1.45)
1.619 full patch
1.6b
Installed team simple 1.6b

okay my issue was the laptop. the laptop graphic drivers kept overriding the game settings. so it got stuck and black screen.
I set my laptop at the same resolution as my game and the .con files and it works!!!!
yah
Just noticed the difference between the Team Simple 1.6 and 1.1612 patch (which doesn't exist at all for the retail version)
BF is now working in 2560x1440, and I seemingly got the other mods to work with the BF1942CF.exe patch.
ee eee
