Re: Random short videos from the Battlefield

Zody, as I've already stated in my first post about this matter, it's not just about the ping. There are a number of other factors that influence the leading distance.

How would a 270 ping pilot have less lead than you xd ?

There's like a whole second or two of delay before his bullets reach the target at close range.

The only way you'd have something like ''more lead than him'', is if somehow you'd always shoot at planes from a very awkward angle, speed and distance. But I doubt it. So yes, I would really like to see a video of your leading distance, because the bullet trajectory curve with 15-25 ping is not much, and what you claim sounds very unbelievable.

Just have a look at him how much he has to lead the target at slow speed:

Screenshot-9.png

With my ping, (55ms avg)  I'd have to shoot at the tip of that arrow to hit the plane at that speed and altitude.

I dont. I have the lead on the picture maybe a little more. There is more to this than the attributes you described. How stable your connection is is the biggest one here. I also have to add that my main experience is from war servers which run on 20 hz instead of 30, which is a different type of game honestly.

Edit: I will provide a round of BoB soon. I mean im fine with being wrong. Always something to learn, but my experience with lead in a plane has been horrible.

He has a point. some people dont need to lead much and would kill that spit in an instance. look at darcanos videos for reference. 240 stable ping and I have to lead way more than he has. its just how this game works. its dumb honestly

i agree with you, but i think it is like that because some players have better performance, or that they have optimized their pc to this tittle, or this game might run better online in some systems than others.

Re: Random short videos from the Battlefield

okay so i had a discussion with russ some years ago and i didnt fully understand all of it other than it seems the game is having some sort of latenzy compensation going on in the background. at this point i dont think it matters much if i post some of the discussion here. maybe someone can find something useful out of it. (hint tuia)

useAutoPingAdjust has the ClientConnection class analyze latency every 8 ticks. I uses it to program NetworkManager's interpolationTime and extrapolationTime. interpolationTime and extrapolationTime are basically globals, so applies to all connections and are used in the predict function of several Networkables

collisionLatency is actually really interesting. It looks like it's involved in testing if one player's point projectiles impact another player. I'm still not clear on exactly what the code is doing, but it seems to be attempting to interpolate between player positions based on latency.

With collisionLatency < 0.0, the interpolation feature is disabled. When it's 0.0, the interpolation uses the player's latency. When it's greater than 0.0, it's added to the player's latency. The code is doing a number of strange things and may account for some of the weird bf1942 hitreg behavior. It'd be really nice to work out exactly what it's doing and see if it can be improved.

Little more info on this. When checking if a point projectile impacts with a BFSoldier, the code looks at the latency of the player that fired the projectile. It adds 0.1 to that by default. It then looks up where the BFSoldier was that amount of time ago. BFSoldier positions are only captured every g_simuationFps times per second, so it interpolates between 2 such points.

this is the most interesting part
So, in theory, at ping 300ms, if you are standing still and player X is drawn at your screen under the crosshairs and you fire, even if they moved 150ms ago and it takes 150ms for the packet to get to the server, it will still hit. Even though the player moved some 300ms before getting hit.

The extra 0.1 is in there to account for the average 1 frame for stuff to get from the server to your screen under a zero latency connection and average 1 frame it takes for stuff to get back.

What it does not account for is where you were when you fired the shot. It also does not account for players that are moving, but not relative to each other. This is especially visible when on a moving platform with another player. Pretty sure that's why you have to fire back to where the player was rather than where they are or where they will be when on a moving ship.

they did change something with the latest patch that came out, i did a test once where i started with version 1 and added each patch after each other and i remember testing at patch v1.4 i could hit running soldiers using a sniper rifle with ease

edit: also when it comes to planes they each have different angles on the guns (atleast on the fighters) meaning they shoot in the way of a x kinda and its different values for each plane so  the golden distanse is were both of the guns bullets meet up and the kill is pretty much instant. zero is the nab plane for this (easiest).
also this means that you can center your aim perfect ona plane but if its to far away the bullets will go on each side of the enemy plane and you will miss all the shots.

The game is using a widescreen-resolution for rendering, probably 16:9 ratio,  but the recording actually seems to have a 4:3 ratio.
If the settings were isometric then distances between 2 points would be preserved at rotation of the camera. But you can see how things get stretched in the corners and are squeezed together at the sides.
It's uncomfortable to look at. I can just hope this happened as a result of post-processing because if you actually play like that it will make flying very difficult.

Our brain isn't really meant to deal with a non-isometric environment.

are you sure it isnt the point of view setting? anything else than 1 will make the same effect i think.

Re: Random short videos from the Battlefield

The field of view can mess with the screen ratio depending on how the game is being processed by windows/video driver, especially when the game is set to full-screen it is possible that using a FoV setting that does not correspond to your actual screen ratio will result in the same sort of effect.

But if you pay attention to the horizon you should be able to clearly see how it's getting stretched and squeezed when moving in and out of corners.
When rotating 45° the horizon reaches form one corner of the screen to the opposite. This distance is obviously longer than side-to-side but yet the same amount of horizon seems to be displayed as at 0° or 90° rotation.

That's true.

As far as i've noticed, setting FoV higher than 1, will stretch the screen on the Y axis. It makes the plane appear longer, that's also why other planes disappear quicker with higher FoV. If you set the FoV lower than default, ( 1 ) it will just zoom in the picture.

I've had the same effect as him when I was messing with different aspect ratios.

Perhaps he recorded the video that way.

If i'm not wrong, you see reported enemies in those games.

But the shot hits 3 meters behind the Copter, if i'm not wrong.  (Gameside thing).

Re: Random short videos from the Battlefield

Correct, you can see a mark if someone of your team spots an enemy or an enemy vehicle.

In order to zook a vehicle in (this case that helli) there are a couple of things that you have to be sure about:

- the distance between you and the vehicle.

- the speed of the vehicle.

So, if the driver/pilot changes his/her speed or direction while you are aiming calculating their route your zook aint going to land on them, so it aint that easy.

Yes, the missile landed a few meters behind probably because of the lag i have another video were it happens the same thing (you know.... onlines games, speacially on bf 1942 big_smile)

there is one advantage:
the flags are a bit transparent which gives you the possibility to see if you have teammates there.
Sometimes I bomb teammates who are invisible on map because of the flag icon (I use oridginal)

Yes, I used it bc of the transparency, but I don't think it's an "advantage" in the sense that makes you kill enemies easier, it only helps you avoid TKs. Having this while flying on Bocage was a blessing.
