Did EA change their minds, and decided to keep the master servers online after all?
Two things might hint to this:
- The Gamespy master server wasn't shut down yesterday, June 30th as it was supposed to.
- http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-1942 was removed 14 days ago, but got back up today.
I wouldn't be surprised if they've cancelled the shutdown without informing the public, they're a terrible company after all. Thx for the potential major trolling, EA.
Weird.
I personally wouldn't put it past EA to start paying for the upkeep of the GameSpy servers, since they received a major backlash over it, and irreversibly damaged PC gaming.
They need to keep the PC gaming industry up, so they can continue making a profit from their PC games.
I come from Crysis Wars, and this morning I noticed that I could still ping the Crysis Wars GameSpy master server (crysiswars.sake.gamespy.com), and I've confirmed from someone that the server list does in fact still work.
If the master servers do stay online, I'll be severely p*ssed off with EA, since the GameSpy shutdown has ruined many communities in Crysis Wars, and most probably other games.
Let's hope for the best...
It's a bit too soon to jump to that conclusion, nevertheless it's past June 30th in California USA, where master.gamespy.com server is hosted. I would be surprised if they didn't shutdown GameSpy today, after all the buzz around it.

I thought GameSpy master servers were transferred from 'master.gamespy.com', to 'sake.gamespy.com' a few years ago.
Something about their 'new' network..
Battlefield 1942 and many other games still use master.gamespy.com as master server. I haven't heard before about transfer to sake.gamespy.com servers, don't know much about other games, I'm mostly focused on Battlefield 1942 and other Battlefield franchise games.
Maybe they can't find the off button?
Still working as of the morning of 1 July on the US east coast...
Maybe someone jumped in and pays gamespy after all
Maybe the guy responsible to unplug it was laid off before time and they just forgot about it. It could happen...

Somebody states:
GameSpy multiplayer for all non-EA games has stopped working, and all GameSpy multiplayer titles for EA games still actually works
http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/e … scontinued
I haven't checked if it's true, but if it is, it could hint that EA actively by payment or other have chosen to keep the Gamespy servers running for their titles, for a long time into the future.
It's a mistery. From what I've tested, GameSpy still works with BFVietnam, BF1942 Secret Weapons Demo, BF1942 Wake Demo and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, all EA Games titles.

I'm pretty sure, the Gamespy shutdown for BF1942 is very close.
just noticed that age of empires servers is down.
"All good things must come to an end, and that time has come for Age of Empires Online. It is time for the barbarian hordes to ride off into the sunset for the final time. The servers will be permanently shut down at approximately 4pm Pacific Time on July 1, 2014."
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
It's not answering.
I confirm master.gamespy.com is not responding in BF1942, BF1942 Wake Demo and BF1942 Secret Weapons Demo.
What do you mean? The server browser is still working for me.

No you are right, updating the server list doesn't work anymore, only the favorites are working.
weird, i just updated mine and its working fine
you guys are either referring to your favorites, or you have applied a master server fix / update
not favorites and yes i have installed the fix
ofc it will works then
Works for me without fix !
You people misunderstand what we're talking about
Without a master server fix for your BF1942 game/install, try hitting:
MULTIPLAY > INTERNET > UPDATE
This is what doesn't work anymore
I just did this 10 minutes ago after seeing this thread and it worked for me. I don't have the gamespy fix either.
