Getting Shadowplay to record in Battlefield 1942

I've tried to make Shadowplay record my BF1942 gameplay but each time I try get an error from the Shadowplay overplay telling me the game is not recognized.

I tested Shadowplay in another game, FEAR, and it works fine there.

Here are my specs:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Driver version 536.23 (drivers are up to date as of the time of writing this message)
CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K
RAM: 63.78 GB
Monitor: 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz
OS: Windows 11 Home 10.0.22621 Build 22621 (updates are up to date)

The game version I am using is SiMPLE's HD version. I get a feeling that the game isn't recognized in the Registry properly and that is the reason why Shadowplay can't recognize it.

Other game recorders like OBS work fine, regardless of the BF1942 version.

If anyone knows a solution to this, please let me know.

Try this https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases
Place d3d8.dll in main game folder

I’ve placed this DLL in my game folder but it still doesn’t work.

Re: Getting Shadowplay to record in Battlefield 1942

Dont need any extra .dll's

My shadow play works absolutley fine when recording an entire screen.

BF1942.exe is the CD version, and runs at administrator

vanilla install, but cant speak for any other player.

That’s probably the issue here, you have the CD version of the game, I don’t, and so your game gets recognized by Shadowplay while mine doesn’t.

Re: Getting Shadowplay to record in Battlefield 1942

I don't think that should be an issue, BF1942 CD version or torrent version is basically the same. Have you tested running Shadowplay software with adminstrator rights?

That is the first thing I did. I’m going to experiment with certain settings and see what happens. Thanks for your help guys.

It doesn’t record anything. It says the game isn’t recognized.

Re: Getting Shadowplay to record in Battlefield 1942

I just  randomly read this.
I have a  NVIDIA GPU  and I use shadowplay  the only way I can get the recording tool to work  with bf1942  or Command and Conquer generals zero Hour  is by  enabling desktop record mode  for some reason doesn't want to recognise  DirectX  8 Games  for in game recording mode.

Same with AMDs software, it works for a while but then just stop functioning, so i have to use the record desktop thingy, and most annoying of all is when i have to alt/tab the game and start the recording then go back to game again.

oh and looking at taskmanager with desktop recording enabled, the "video encode" section is sometime using like 90% depending of resolution used. Very irritating.

The version of Shadowplay I have doesn’t have an option to record the desktop. Could you take a picture of where that setting would be please?

here are the nvidia experience settings you need see video  https://youtu.be/jJlWWn7mZgo

Also remember  when you enable  desktop  recording mode,  it's a  advisable   you are running the latest  community version of bf1942 to make sure your main menu screen is actually running  in your  desired  resolution.
Because bf1942 by default the main menu would be  running in 800 by 600.
Which can screw up  your recordings  but it's no longer an issue with you have  the latest
community installed bf1942.exe  since this supports  higher resolutions.

Thank you for making the video.

When I open GeForce Experience and navigate to the settings, I don't see any icon with a padlock on it (privacy settings). What should I do then?

Maybe I have an older version  or  newer version  of  NVIDIA experience,   I don't know which one would be true in this case  for me.
Obviously they made some changes in the settings panel.
Because for me it has always been  in that location  and it has  never been removed.
But then again  even though I update my drivers  I never actually  navigate to the settings in all this time so things could have changed  in the newer or older versions so that's why they are different for you maybe.

So the only thing I can do is check for version difference this is currently the version I am running of NVIDIA experience, see screenshot. I am on version 3.27.0.112

my-version.jpg

I did turn on experimental features but I don't think  that is necessary for recording but I  don't know for sure to be honest.
You can find this  in the general options  I think it's  front page.

( edit ok I just did a quick Google search for when it's not available as a  option
I found this video  maybe you have multiple monitors ?
https://youtu.be/H1w2Znf_oq8

so this all above I just wrote might not mean anything.   )

I am using the same version as you. I read something about HDMI ports and monitors, so idk. This is very strange. I’ll keep looking.

Why don't you just try OBS Studio, it's a free and very powerful software for recording

I have OBS studio, but unfortunately the quality of the recordings does not come close to Shadowplay. Also, frame drops due to recording are more important in OBS.

Do you use hardware acceleration when recording? I have much cheaper/weaker Nvidia GPU than yours and OBS works pretty good with hardware acceleration enabled.

Something like this. I use Linux and the settings may vary a bit, so you can test available for you options to see the difference.

Sometimes Shadowplay on my laptop suddenly stops recognizing DirectX 8/9 games, and the only thing that fixes it is resaving custom settings for them in Nvidia Control Panel. These settings work for me

Well, here's my Battlefield 1942 recording using Nvidia Shadowplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G1438K … MyNg%3D%3D
Aside from d3d8to9, you have to use DXVK alongside it to be recognized by the GPU for recording DirectX 8 games:
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk

Just copy the d3d9.dll from the DXVK's x86 folder and drop it inside Battlefield 1942 main directory where the .exe is located.

I have the d3d9.DLL file in my main folder, but it still doesn’t work. Is there an additional file I need, like that d3d8tod9?
