Was the name really "Bruno," or could it have been "Brunno" instead?

Yes, using an artillery spotter is perfectly legal, unless the flag is on the uncapturable main base.

Pixel shooting is shooting from a fixed position and using a known landmark to aim at something you can't see.  For example, you get into a defgun, and you know that if you aim at a certain spot on a certain cloud, that the shell you fire will land at a certain spot on the map that you can't see.  Usually that spot will be a spawn point or some other place you know there are often enemies present.  The cloud example works on BF1942 because the clouds in the skies are a fixed part of the map, just like the ground features.

Pixel shooting is against the rules, including SiMPLE servers; see http://team-simple.org/rules:

- Pixel-shooting is strictly forbidden.

Edit: meant to say "Pixel shooting is against the rules on many servers, including SiMPLE servers..."

The big problem with bailing is that it deprives people of the kill they earned, especially if the downed pilot is just going to die in the ocean anyway.  It would be good if you got a point for destroying an enemy vehicle; doesn't single player mode keep track of vehicles destroyed?

I for one really like this map, but it just takes a few campers to screw it up.  I think simply disabling parachutes will change it from a spawncampfest into a naval air battle like its historical namesake.

#38 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Coral Sea - New modding idea » 2016-06-25 15:52:46

Oh yeah, 3) make a rule against camping the enemy carriers.

#39 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Coral Sea - New modding idea » 2016-06-25 15:50:07

I think there are two simpler ideas: 1) death bubbles around enemy carriers, 2) disable chutes altogether.

#40 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Download BTF1942 » 2016-06-16 18:41:49

The Forgotten Hope site seems to have CD images at http://www.pixel-fighter.com/modules.php?name=Downloads.  I have the retail discs so I haven't actually downloaded them myself.

Patches can be downloaded from http://www.moddb.com/games/battlefield- … -v16-patch and http://www.moddb.com/games/battlefield- … v161-patch, among other sites.  You might not need the first one if the CD images are already up to that version (I can't remember).

Finally, SiMPLE has the latest unofficial patches at http://team-simple.org/download/.  These will let it work on Windows 10.

#41 Re: Server Ban Appeals » Please unban!!! » 2016-06-14 23:20:55

IE means Internet Explorer.  Just ignore that because people are making jokes instead of being helpful.  I don't see your name on the USA server ban list.  Do you play under the name "ikebana?"  It's also possible the ban has already expired.  If you don't know why you might have been banned take a look at the rules at http://team-simple.org/rules.

#42 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Windows 10 » 2016-06-13 06:22:04

I am.  I had trouble with it until I downloaded the patches from http://team-simple.org/download though.  It still gives me problems if I Alt-Tab out of the game; a lot of times (30%?) BF1942.EXE will crash while I'm out on the desktop.

You should have enough players on each team to crew the B-17 fully, 3v3 on stock B-17, 6v6 on your modded plane.  That might also make some interesting dogfights.

Yes, it looks like your ban expires Wed June 8 23:05, Eastern USA time I'm pretty sure.

I may have been banned because I was in enemy air field but how about a warning if you can not go in enemy base.
I was also kicked about 10-15 minutes earlier for waht I do not know. How about an unban.

There is a difference between just being in the enemy airfield, and going onto the enemy uncapturable base and spawn-killing someone who hasn't even seen you yet (meaning you can't plead self-defense).  Your warnings were 1) the many warnings that were going out over the server to players who couldn't seem to follow the rule against attacking the enemy main base that game, 2) kicks of those players who didn't heed those warnings, 3) your previous kick no more than 15 minutes earlier, and 4) the previous knowledge of the rules you should have gained from playing on this server since or possibly before registering here almost four years ago.

A ban will often follow being kicked for another incident during the same game and can be a bit longer if there is a history of problems following the rules or someone has been here long enough to know better.  Your ban is for three days.  Please try to have more respect for the rules in the future.

#48 Re: Feedback » maybe » 2016-05-30 23:11:32

I believe he means that you probably play on a server that's closer to you.

I usually try to turn off bots if each team has at least 8 players, and the teams aren't unbalanced.  Be patient, however; if bots get turned off when teams are unbalanced (in terms of human players) then that can cause problems with the auto-balance system keeping the teams unbalanced instead of balanced.

#49 Re: Report Abuse » Admins regularly disable/affect map votes on BF1942 servers » 2016-05-08 20:27:21

Map voting is good to have enabled, but it gets abused.  I've said this often, but if the map vote for Stalingrad fails 3-4 times within the same game, it's probably not going to succeed the 5th time.  That's when an admin needs to disable it for the current game.

In my opinion map vote should be used in two cases: 1) at the beginning of a round when a map has started that most people don't want to play.  Or even if just one person doesn't want to play it; bring up a vote and see what happens.  But once it's apparent people are satisfied with the current game, leave it alone; you're just annoying everyone.  2) the game has gone on and on and everyone is getting tired of it, or maybe people have left a large map and not enough people left to play it, etc.

People also need to realize that if a map vote is successful it will immediately end the current game, and a lot of people would like to finish the current game.  Wait until the next one starts then vote.  There have been many times I've voted no not because I didn't want to play the map being voted on, but because I wanted to finish the current game.

I would say leave things as they are, but people don't need to be complaining when an admin turns off map vote when it starts getting annoying.

Also, upon a successful map vote I think it's a good idea for an admin to !setnext back to the map that would have been next in the rotation had the vote failed.  That way a whole bunch of maps don't get skipped because of one map vote.

I'd leave it on, but admins can disable it as needed.  For example, I'll turn it off if there are 3-4 failed votes in one game, because it does get in the way of seeing the action.

Here's a tip for traveling long distances across the map to help with the strain on wrists, etc., from holding down the W key for a long time:

First, point yourself in the right direction and start running/swimming/etc. (i.e. hold W).  Next while still holding W also hit K as if you are going to type in chat.  Now let go of all keys and rest your wrists; you will keep going in the direction you were going.  Note that while you're doing this none of your commands will work (the keystrokes will go into your chat text line), but if something unexpected happens or you get close to your destination, you can turn off "autopilot" by hitting Enter.  You will again have full control.
