#31 Technical Help » How to keep players from crashing linux server? » 2013-11-16 13:00:12

Recently some kid has been crashing a linux server I have. I was thinking maybe he was doing these command crashes which are possible on the windows version (the fixes tuia fixed).

I know for a fact the player has to be in the server in order to crash it, and the player can change his keyhash and IP address whenever he wants, and it is done within a minute. These are some of the IP's he has used:

176.56.174.x
204.14.77.x
46.16.33.x
5.22.x.x

[TNT] Rex, Rebeca are some of his names. This minute I am watching the player list and quickly scanning the new players joining to see who they are, and checking out the IP address. I have kept the server from crashing for around 15 minutes, which before I started doing this it was crashing every 5-10 minutes. I wonder if there is a command crash on linux that no one is aware of?

Thanks if anyone can help, banning is fun (gets the adrenaline rushing) but I have to sleep sometime =]

#32 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Pushing the limit of the maximum number of players on a server » 2013-09-15 02:48:06

not to put you down or anything like this, however...

there have been previous video games (Joint Operations) that allowed 150 players per server which was released in 2004 and all that is left are 1 or 2 small 32-40 slot servers.

Higher slot limits will not keep the game alive forever.

In 2008 Novalogic was looking to make a new Delta Force game which was going to allow 256 players, which of course never happened  big_smile big_smile big_smile

Is there a fix for linux? Is this a problem with the linux servers using the patch that allows 1.6/1.61/1.612?

It would be cool to see BF:Vietnam have more players. It's actually not as bad as everyone thinks it is haha.

It plays pretty much like 1942 did when it first came out, which is sloppy but fun.

#36 Re: BF1942 Discussion » SiMPLE RTR+SW » 2013-04-27 08:45:35

Because people have stopped playing at the server and its boring playing 5v5 all the time.

#37 Re: News and Announcements » SiMPLE | New Maps and SiMPLE | RtR+SW [FRA] servers » 2013-04-26 20:58:01

If you guys are looking for more players on the new maps server; maybe try making the server available to origin players and play normal 1942 maps and slowly integrate the custom maps as you tell the players to download them. Just a thought

#39 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2013-04-10 20:10:06

sk, is there anyway to give origin players cd keyhashes also?

#40 Re: Technical Help » Map not Found- SW » 2013-04-01 05:52:52

Nah that wasnt it, lol. Anyways thanks for the help, Ill just try a torrent or maybe another cd key.

If you have a Twitter account; a way to contact EA about releasing the 2 expansion packs for free on origin is to tweet them at @AskEASupport -- Good luck!

They are. If you don't have XPack1 or XPack2 CD-key in registry, you'll get "MAP NOT FOUND" error while trying to connect to RtR or SW mod server.

I remember the problem now, it is because it isn't in the registry, but can someone tell me how to get to the registry?

#44 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Automatic client-side downloads for Battlefield 1942 » 2013-03-25 19:59:01

I think he means something like Steam, where when you join the server and don't have the map... It begins to download automatically.

Road to Rome works fine, but when I try to join any SW server it tells me map not found? I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice trying 2 different CD keys and still nothing. I had the same problem a few years ago; no idea why it starts and stops whenever it wants to.

#46 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Automatic client-side downloads for Battlefield 1942 » 2013-03-25 06:34:16

Agreed, someone should look into this.

I will pay $ for anyone successful.

#47 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Team Kills - Console FTK » 2013-03-07 22:20:46

It depends if auto punish is on or not. If tuia set it as on then you dont need to type ptk, only ftk. And other way around, but yes it actually works.

#48 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2013-03-04 16:12:57

Sorry to double post, just want to make sure you see this. Do origin players also have keyhashes? smile

#50 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2013-03-02 18:15:56

Yeah, it crashed. I'll check that out

Also, reegad you can always add Russian words to the banned words list and move it so it kicks on "1", you can also ban player names doing this or simply ban the player name from BFSM if you happen to see them online.

BFSM Shows Last Crash: Sat Mar 02 15:35:21 2013

And this is all I see in the log.

02/03/2013 15:35:20 : Connection reset
02/03/2013 15:35:20 : Disconnected
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Server has crashed
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Couldn't send message quit to console! Not connected.
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Disconnected
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Server stopped
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Auto-restart is enabled, restarting the server.
02/03/2013 15:35:21 : Server started
02/03/2013 15:35:36 : Connected

The other server that crashed just 10 minutes ago says the same thing. I don't have the event logging enabled, should I?

Btw thanks for everything tuia, you're a pretty awesome person! =]

Also I saw someone post in special characters like reegad was talking about, so I guess we'll see if it crashes now.

Someone is using "special" characters to crash my server.. i have applied your fix but this must be something different..
The "hacker" uses letters like these "éïüýò" at the start of the map, upon map-change the server will crash.. Banned the player using this command and restarted the server, server did not crash on map change, but someone else came in and did the same thing.. map crashed on the next load... any ideas?

All of my servers have been crashing at map changes as of recently also..

Pretty sure Tobruk has played about 6 rounds in a row haha.

Gain altitude, and then nose-dive. Do not bail, or else you will die. Be sure to hit the ground at full force and blow your up your airplane.

I know nothing, nor have accomplished anything in my life, so step by step would be helpful. Maybe I'll take you out to dinner sometime and get you laid.

I believe now keyhashes got disabled from BF1942 server v1.612, because of the removal of their validation. They changed that part of the code, but were not able to fix keyhashes display, probably because the authentication code is obfuscated. It's just a speculation. I can replicate that with a few bytes change and s[sk] did the same when he patched BF1942 Linux server to v1.612. Anyway, this weekend I'll try to fix it.

Cool and thanks big_smile

Does anyone here have a solution to keep some nerd from DDoS'ing my dedicated box; and my single game server? I'm pretty sure I know who it is; but still really nothing I can do based on that.
