j, y, u, zIt's not possible to pronounce "й" and "ы" in English. "ю" is for "u" then, "у" sounds close but it's another letter. "э" sounds closer to "е" but not to "з".
i thought э was з (too small font), didn't even realize you got both э and e
anyway, you messed up badly, we got tons of stupid characters and yet we're pretty compatible with civilized world ;-)

No, there is a quite reasonable explanation. They got a Cyrillic keyboard and they thought that if they can change keyboard language, the text with Latin characters will be translated automatically.
and it would work if you didn't have invent some silly keyboard layout
those russians!

i think only on special occasions, when we celebrated something idiotic that came from east, at the end of schoolyear, ...
kids had to be iskra, then pionier and then zvazak (missed the last one due to "revolution") and all had their stupid uniforms, iskra and pionier had these stupid red "scarfs", not sure if zvazaci had tie or "scarf"

To be technically correct, it's not the true about Russia you watching on German or Dutch TV. Sometimes it makes me laugh and maybe this funny reason still keeps alive the stereotypes. Whatever the case, you should believe in these news like to believe in the immaculate conception and the blessed Virgin Mary.
In Russia, we have gays and they date each other, live together etc. If they want to go to the cinema to watch another crappy Twilight film chewing gum and drinking margarita cocktail, they can feel free to do it. It's okay until they do mess up with the others.
