#1 Re: Report Abuse » pychopath pixeling on Aberdeen » 2012-07-21 15:38:34

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but where in the rules pixel shooting is forbidden, and more importantly why it even should be forbidden? As long as you are not shooting to enemy base, I don't see much problem with it. For example Aberdeen: there's no chance at all for the team pinned in their base to take their north/south flag without defgun/arty shooting to the repair pad. Similar at Caen, shooting to the repair pad with sexton makes the capture of south flag quite possible, without it or very skilled players there's not much chance.

I doubt many people remember pixels anymore, it's more like that you get a target from a sniper, then during the spot you get the aim correct, and then learn the spot based on clouds. Now, the sniper is unlikely to give second target or even survive the 2 minutes, is the arty supposed to stop shooting immediately after the spotter is gone? And how can you even control this?

Also, if the 8 year veterans pixel shooting based on their old memory is a problem, I think it's possible to change the server gravity setting. A minimal change will cause all long range pixels to fail, but has no noticeable effect on normal tank/arty shooting.

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

I tested the server a bit, it had some lag few times and once connection problems. Can't say really anything without testing it with 60 players.

Just found this guide + codec:

A quick test with these settings, and I'm really impressed. The quality is excellent, the file size is 5-10 times smaller than with other codecs I have tested, and I could actually record with 1080p (I could not on previous settings). Have to get some other editing software or downgrade vegas to smaller version since vegas 11 dows not support x264 codec.

Can you add the resuplying of the bombs to the axis runway on Market Garden?

The lags started exactly midnight CET between friday and saturday, so whatever was done then caused this.

Since the server has been lagging I had time to edit a new video from the stuff I recorded mainly during 2.3.2012: Second video:

Sony Vegas 11, my editing skill consists of taking a subclip and putting it to the new video.

Dxtory. I'm playing with 1080p 32xAA 16xAF so fraps could not handle it. Dxtory does not cause any FPS drop, so easy to record with good enough quality. I have heard that other good is MSI afterburner beta video capture.

#13 Re: News and Announcements » Battle of Britain, Gazala and Midway maps retouched » 2012-02-29 11:49:18

Played Gazala and Midway yesterday, didn't notice anything different on Gazala allied from pilots point of view (map is very good already), but Midway changes were great. The islands changed ownership all the time, there was always big dogfights above them, and generally the map was much more fun.

The server crashes a lot after map change, maybe at least 50% of the time.

Hi and thanks for the great server. Here's some thoughts after playing way too much lately:

- Mods for the maps are generally great, but these 2 could be a bit better:
Midway: Maybe add a second carrier for both teams, or make the carrier spawn almost instant when the old one is sunk. Maybe even have extra planes spawn to the carrier. Now it's too easy to pin down the other team if they lose the carrier, and generally midway is quite boring if the airforce on the other team is non-existent. Also, the small island could use a second AA, now it's too easy to rape.
Invasion of Philippines: I personally think this map should be removed from the map pool, but if that's not an option, maybe give axis a carrier (and counter this with more AA's, especially airfield could use few in this situation). Now there's not much happening when axis and allied sit on their own islands.

- Add some rules to the server broadcast message, especially the rule about baseraping should be visible. Don't know if this help, !wbase has no effect at least. Planerape is quite common even when admins are present, without us being there it might be out of control.

- Any chance for me to get the map admin rights? !runnext would be usefull when the server crashes after 30 minutes of philippines before the next map is loaded...
