whats the naming policy (if any?) for simple fra ?
i entered the server today with the following tag ....
--
gun.bf gorr then kicked me, saying the name wasn't a "real" name
i then changed it to :
+++
he kept saying it wasn't a real name .... then i used
YYY
then
YYYYY
but still kicked and an attempted ban by him (he mistyped)
sounded like he was just annoyed by a tag that stood out; repeating characters and spaces, and not really
backed by rules
so i ask again .... is there an official nametag policy for simple fra, or can admins simply subjectively
kick / ban any player for having a "improper" name, as they feel like ?
what is wrong with 9 spaces then 5 capital Y's, then 9 spaces ? it's clearly visible, etc
at times, i prefer to have non ordinary tags. should all tags be left aligned and be "real" names / words
with a max of one space ? .... i think not
some of those clanner admins are ultra conservative, conformist, orthodox, power abusing, and think simple
fra is an official competition server and that everything has to be like in bf-league.eu
First of all, try to have a more friendlier tone in your post next time. In the end you are asking something from us not the other way around. Secondly, the rules for names are quite simple:
- Offensive or blank player names are not allowed.(taken from the rules section of team-simple.org that you obviously didn't bother to read)
Additionally names which can't be addressed by the admins are not allowed.

so according to that, a name like
YYY
(10 spaces, 3 y's, 10 spaces) should be allowed ... it's not blank and can be typed easily
because, isn't it very easy to say : hey yyy don't do that, hey yyy don't do this ? i think it is
"player" "fighter" "medic" "pilot" "sniper" etc. seems allowed even though addressing those could be more confusing than yyy
and what about russian / cyrillic tags .... its quite difficult for a non-russian admin to address those
why not just use "xp fanatic"?
I'm with The Archer", what's the spaces do for your name?
Blade
I dont see problem with +++ and yyy , only with this dots
Same. Think Gorr overreacted.
I remember I played with player ( -- ). I can say that such tag is less visible then a normal tag. I used to play for some time ago with tag (.) Very few enemies saw me. So I understand the rule.
But (yyy), should be fine I guess. Maybe Gorr should answer for himself.

The simple truth behind adding the spaces before your name is to distract a player who is shooting from a distance. Some snipers and engineers will use your tags to aim at but by adding the spaces it can make you appear that you are just to the right of where you really are, especially on foggy maps. You clearly are aware of this XP so you should know why you were kicked but spaces at the beginning of a name should never be allowed.

wrong... you misunderstand ... if you read post # 1 properly, you'll see that i put and equal amount of spaces both before and after the characters, so that the characters are centered. and all tags in bf1942 are surrounded by brackets that don't get unaligned ever if spaces are unaligned
so a tag like
YYY
(10 spaces, 3 Y's, 10 spaces) is as easy to detect / see as any other 3-character tag
and even an unaligned 3-character tag should be allowed
what it comes down to, is that some of the clanner admins on simple fra are dumb powertripping kick/ban-happy ignorants that don't really know the rules (even though they act like they do) and rarely visit this forum ....
??? move on cya!

No you are misunderstanding try it for yourself if you wish. Adding the same amounts of spaces at the end of your name does not suddenly move it back to the centre again. The name system see's the spaces as characters so you name will move to the right of where you actually are and then adds the extra spaces at the end. This is considered as a type of cheat to throw the enemy off but by all means try it for yourself and see, although I don't know why you cant simply have a name like everyone else?

is this a sick totalitarian mind control server? as long as my tag arent breaking any rules, i should be allowed to pick anything i like

bbdinkw ... heres the proof that youre wrong (i set up a game with two computers, using the mentioned tag)
this is what
YYY
(10 spaces, 3 Y's, 10 spaces) looks like in bf1942. more than one repeating space gets auto-removed / truncated, so
YYY
(one space, 3 Y's, one space)
is what gets displayed in bf1942
it is centered, and only two spaces total (surrounded by brackets)
feel free to test this if you don't believe me
do you admit that you were wrong ?
you consistently misunderstand stuff
So if adding the spaces makes no difference at all why are you adding them?
they do make a difference; 10 spaces become 1 space (as opposed to zero spaces) in the tag, and 10 spaces remain 10 spaces in the scoreboard

space spamming is annoying and looks like a lack of attention.
Your problem is childish.
do you admit that you were wrong ?
you consistently misunderstand stuff

So you are correct adding the same amount of spaces does indeed centre the name back up again I admit I am wrong and you are so cool for finding out this information because the rest of us, me included of course, constantly misunderstand stuff.
I hope this makes you feel special now
So back to my question if it makes no difference why are you adding the spaces?
space spamming is annoying and looks like a lack of attention.
Your problem is childish.
calling repeating spaces in a nametag spam / annoying / lack of attention / childish, points to an illogical brain, in my opinion
So back to my question if it makes no difference why are you adding the spaces?
i answered that in # 6
Damn!!!!
If u getting kick for name...
So try the diff name which you use in forum xp fantastic.
So why the fcuk you using name like XXX YYY ,,, ......
That is the power of stupidit???
It might be exspected to much for an admin to find out ingame whether you have equal many spaces right and left of your name or not.
#6 is not even your post what are you talking about?
i meant # 15 ...
here it is again
they do make a difference; 10 spaces become 1 space (as opposed to zero spaces) in the tag, and 10 spaces remain 10 spaces in the scoreboard
Still does not answer my question?
All I can see is that adding 10 spaces on both ends of name makes it go to one space in game and ten on scoreboard. For reference it is also ten spaces in game chat and that is really annoying to most players but still why add the spaces at all?????
Pourquoi faire simple quand ont peut faire compliquer ??? He wants to make sure this is not a ( sick totalitarian mind control server ) post 13

I think both sides are really stubborn here, one wants to keep using weird nicks, the other wants to prevent him from doing so at any cost. You guys should take a deep breath and relax.
I think he is a rule tester like I call them
Still does not answer my question?
but still why add the spaces at all?????
--- it looks cool
--- i want to stand out / be different
--- i hate conformists / fixed thinking
i somebody gets annoyed by spaces on a scoreboard, then they have mental issue
I have no interest either way regarding weird nicks and certainly have no interest in preventing him from doing so, I simply asked why would you if they make no difference it would seem a little pointless to me but then maybe I am misunderstanding it all again

--- i want to stand out / be different -- Oh you are that alright
--- i hate conformists / fixed thinking -- So why are you even asking on this forum?
i somebody gets annoyed by spaces on a scoreboard, then they have mental issue -- No they probably wont be annoyed by that but if you use in game chat they might when it fills across their screens with all of the pointless spaces
???___--------------what are you talking about------------------____???
DinkW you must be wrong again!!
