Laptop/Notebook

So....son has "borrowed" my custom gaming 17" laptop for his video work....I know what that means...buh bye.
Question is:  When I replace with another.....do I need 17" for gaming or is 15.5 sufficient screen size?  Does 2" make a difference..ahhahhah
I play BF of course and will probably play newer games as they come out.

The guts will be stuffed with all the latest hardware...just interested in the screen size difference on laptops for gaming.  And no, I am not interested
in having a desktop pc...this has to be mobile so I can leave the room   wink

Re: Laptop/Notebook

You'll get used to 15" but if you are used to 17" why don't you stay with it smile What kind of videos does your son do?

music videos for bands; outside projection/music shows from multiple laptops...like side of buildings projection, editing with Pshop (I think)...stuff like
that...he used to have nothing but the best Apple products but got fed up with pricing so all pc now...
he also does painting on canvas and still photos....quite talented BUT still trying to find the $$$$...

Re: Laptop/Notebook

Definitely 15" is very common, but in my opinion it's because 15" is "the largest you want to travel with daily for business."  For "a system I'm using at home and rarely move it, but just need to be able to pick it up and move it easily when necessary", there is no reason not to go with 17" especially for gaming.

But my additional opinion is that there is a very diminishing value return trying to push past 17".  Instead of looking for some Frankenstein 18" or larger laptop that will be like carrying a briefcase around, maybe just get an external monitor to plant where you normally play.  (I'm partial to Dell's 27" at the moment as being a good value point. 4K if you want it, or 1080p for better value.)  And then whenever you do "pick up and leave the room", /that's/ when you'll be playing on the 17" screen.  Otherwise you're normally playing "on a 27" laptop."

Re: Laptop/Notebook

got it narrowed down to about 5/6 brands.  going with 15.6 inch as I dont really like handling the 17inch one.....(waiting for Oscar's snappy retort)...
will go with 1080p as I read that the font in 4k is too tiny and 4k is only useful for video editing fanatics, architects and engineers.....
