ServerManager v2.01 constantly crashing (restart loop)

I have seen this problem posted before but not a clear solution.

I have downloaded the Battlefield 1942 v1.61 Windows server executable patched and replaced the files as required. I can run a dedicated server without issue (in winXP sp3 compatibility mode) using the DedicatedServer.exe.

When I try and use the server manager  however (the same with any version I try including the provided BFServerManager201-patched what happens is the server starts but then always crashes after 30 seconds to a minute. During this time the server works and I can even connect to it but it always crashes. This just continues in a loop.

I am using Windows 8.1 64bit. The BF1942 game itself works fine. I would love to be able to use the manager as I have used it in the past and improves the experience significantly.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I have downloaded the dedicated server separately as I have seen described in other posts but this did not fix the issue. Neither did using the Battlefield 1942 v1.612 Windows server executable patched

That is a constant and familiar issue and I have run into that many times in running the software myself.  I have found that for me, the problem is fixed by clicking on 'options' and unchecking the box that says 'restart the server automatically.' It may still crash a couple of times with an initial server popup and updating of game settings, but it should stay up, atleast it does for me.  Try that first anyway.  (PS. A good habit to get into after a successful start or change to settings, is to click on 'save' and "settings," "export server settings" so that you can always reload them later)

Start the server and let it run for some minutes, then start the bfmanager program and it will hook up to the server without crashing it (hopefully)

Run your server on Linux, Windows is never a good place to run a server from to many overheads.

The solution offered by PizzatheHut seems to have solved my problem but the server does always crash once first. I will try bud's suggestion today.

I agree Linux is better but I am only hosting from home. Originally I used to host through the in game menu, then moved to the dedicated server then finally to GameServer manager as it is simple and makes things much easier. Setting up Linux in this case would actually be a bigger overhead and I should not need to when simply hosting a quick and dirty BF1942 server.

Its an old problem, it started with Win 7 and has come and gone and come back again. never really concluded why it happens.

oh and they didnt do a great job when they compiled the Linux variant of the bf42 server so it actually use more cpu then the windows version.

But Window has a horse shit load of overheads which is why most servers run on Linux .............Just saying

I tried using RM 2.01 for SimpleUSA and it kept crashing.  Now using RM 2.0 and no problems....

oh  I have windows 8.1  soon to upgraded windows 10 when Mr. Gates deems it my turn....

I'm glad it worked.  Mine does that too, but after the first crash, it stays up.  Unless you know Linux, the learning curve in setting up the Linux OS is quite high.  There are too many little variables and nuances with Linux that make it a pain in the arse to deal with.  I wouldn't run dedicated or ded32.exe and then BFSM, since server manager is based off both files anyway and starts them.  Just let it have that first failed start, then run with it.  Provided that you have windows already installed like nearly everyone, there is no overhead aside from your internet connection which you'll have with Linux anyway.  Windows is no more expensive than Linux for running the server, and I have done both for nearly 10 years.

Thanks again for your help. As you say PizzatheHut it always crashes but then always stays up upon manually restarting. Ran for over 15 hours yesterday before I took the server offline. I have only tested your solution with BFServerManager201-patched and as it works so don't feel I need to test the other versions of the manager.

Just throwing in a quick n' dirty alternate method if there are others like me, for whom nothing mentioned here works.

Start the server and quickly change the map before the server crashes...
I have no idea why this works, but atleast in my case this seems to do the trick every time and stop the constant crashing.
Only tested using "Change map" but I assume "Run next map" would work just the same.

Weird.

Had the same problem on windows 7 onwards, a workaround I found is for bfsm 2.01: start the server from bfsm, then close the bfsm panel, keep the server console, and the server wont crash, however you wont have admin commands or anything like that.

might try all the afore mentioned suggestions.

I have a win 7 computer here where it works flawlessly, its latest updated sometime 2014 so its definitive some ms update that causing this.
