Anyone ever run into this? I have a Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse that is a few years old, but still in good shape. Every now and then while I'm playing, I just start spinning around for about half a second or so as if the mouse is out of control. I have a similar problem with an identical mouse on my Linux system at work where the mouse just shoots across to the opposite side of the screen. I look for dust or cat hair, etc. in the optical sensor, but usually it looks clear. This isn't happening constantly, but it happens enough to make me wonder what's going on. If anyone has a solution I'd be happy to hear it.

I actually have a fairly new one of those (Logitech M510 or M525) lying around somewhere . I haven't switched because I just can't get used to a different mouse than what I'm using; no matter how I adjust the sensitivity, etc., it doesn't go exactly where I want. Maybe I just need to keep trying to get used to it.
Even so, since I have the same issue on multiple mice I don't think it's caused by my mouse wearing out or going bad. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this problem or knows of a software fix.
The fault is simple - It has "Microsoft" written on it.
This is what I use and its pretty good : http://gaming.logitech.com/en-gb/produc … ming-mouse

Yes, i had the same problem but it was some years ago. Dont know what was the fault it just happened now and then. Im pretty sure i didnt have a microsoft mouse tho.
What kind of mouse mat/pad do you have?
Suddenly I am experiencing for the first time,............Mouse Envy........

I think it's this one: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/6 … se-Pad-016. Not 100% sure, but it looks the same and is the same price and place I got it in-store.
It works well for me. I just got it a couple of months ago, but I had the same problem using the old mouse pad, so I don't think it's the cause.
I have used a Logitech G9x Laser for many years. It has a gaming grade laser and for the time, was the best...it still performs exceedingly well....and you can get something like that or better now for under $100. Razor makes some very good gaming mice too.
I agree with Dink...dump the microsoft crap.

Logitech G500 here. They don't make it anymore and online sources (newegg, amazon) are selling it for 3 to 4 times the original price.

Yeah it could be a surface issue.
Just out of curiosity, how many people use a mousemat/pad?
I haven't used one in years and I like the freedom of the entire table.
I use RatPadz. https://www.ratpadz.com/
Nothing even comes close imo.

I use a mouse pad at home, but at work my desk surface works very well, especially if I use furniture polish on it once a week.
3m laser pad.
Found my Logitech M525 while cleaning behind the desk today. I tried it a couple of games tonight and think I can get used to playing with it.
Give this pad a serious consideration : https://www.ratpadz.com/
Once the mouse you use is at a certain level...the surface you run it on is critical for taking advantage of the precision for in-game performance.
I have to say it increases my aim and transitions better than anything I've used.... ANY table, or for that matter, any other gamers pad I've tried. I have spent big $$ and tried most all of the top level pads...everyone owes it too themselves to use one of these once...for gaming...tis da shitz and for $24.99 you would spend that much on a lessor pad... it's worth every penny.

not sure....red or green?
A bit of a follow up, my mouse pad I think is this one: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/6 … e-Pad-016/. It was fine for a few months, but I'm now having issues with it bowing upward in the middle, so I wouldn't recommend it now. That doesn't have anything to do with my original problem with the mouse jumping, however, because it just started to bow in the last couple of weeks.
You guys and girls, need to pop the $25 and get the RATZ....my little ole Logitech m310 (hey..ive tried razors, etc etc I like simple and it fits my hands)...flys across the pad....there is no friction, the pads on my mouse are happy, and if you spill yer beer on it....you can wipe it up no issues....there is also a little cutout on the pad so you can rest your wrist in between...ah..in between....oh ha...gaming....
get it...put it on your xmas list....
