Hello everyone,
I just wanted to make a post to inform people that there is an influx of people playing 1942 after this post was made on the website "reddit": https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comment … ield_1942/
I just want to ask everyone to be nice and understanding to the new players as well as the players whom have not played for years.
Haha I just came on to say the same thing!
[Global] Czar_Alek: where are all the new players coming from?
[Global] Newbie: reddit
[Global] Czar_Alek: what subreddit?
[Global] Newbie: /r/gaming
[Axis] Ikeath: HIDE
[Global] RoflJason: thats how i found it
Anyway, they seem to be a mix of fresh newbies and older returnees - not a bad group so I wasn't banning anyone, but they still need to have the rules explained to them.
Actually I first heard about this game from the same website during the summer of '13.
Those that keep playing won't stay beginners for long, so lets be nice to them so they keep playing.
It's no fun playing on empty servers!
Yeah I totally agree.
That should explain last night's base-attack fest on Bocage, since there were quite a few new names. Probably would have helped if there had been an admin on-line the whole game, but I realize the admins are (much-appreciated) volunteers and as far as I know don't have assigned shifts, so that's not a criticism of anyone. Just to let you know you may be needed more than usual for a while until new people learn the rules.
I can remember, and it hasn't been all that long ago that I started playing multi-player, that for new people it's not always obvious that you actually need to go to a web site and read a list of rules. It's also not that easy to get to a browser when you've already started up the game. I can understand that for new people there might be the attitude that when playing a computer game, anything the game lets you do should be OK to do. So I'm trying to be more understanding myself, especially when I think of the numbers of players and servers we used to have before the GameSpy shutdown.
Maybe for a while the server should display more messages about the web site, and even (maybe just summaries of) each rule; there aren't so many rules that that couldn't be done.

its good that the game is becoming popular again, i remember back in 2012 november when origin was released, full servers and many n0ob players too reminded me of the good old times
Nice, keep advertising for the game everywhere you can. It will definitely save it.
This game is going no where...new players or not...there are many players that will play and fill servers... and we are talking worldwide.
Not that there are many good servers left either... Just the euro players alone float this boat in the USA...the ratio is close to 80% Euro- 20% US mostly, and no lower than 50-50 most other times. Our primary goal is keeping them while hoping newbies aren't chased off either.
Everyone should be helping these players...when one asked where something is...saying it's under their mom's bed is probably counter productive.

Sorry about that.
Haha that's pretty funny.
I was thinking of heading over to reddit, saying a friendly hello and giving a brief summary of our server/rules etc.
Not sure how much it will do because that thread is over a day old, which is ancient in reddit time.
Also you will get buried under the 300+ replies from that thread.

Yeah that's why I said I "was" thinking of heading over
Reddit, reddit... I heard of this website but I didn't know it's that popular.

Since the website is popular mostly in the United States, I presume the majority of newbies are connecting to Simple USA. Can somebody tell me at least something about increasing online in number?
Hard to say now nameless, but there was a rather large spike after the thread...how many will return is a good question. US Server population has been far more steady this year in general and progresses in numbers. More USA players in the day and predominately foreign in the early morning hours...are the best of both worlds.
According to my son, reddit is quite popular here with the younger generations that want instant, current, internet information or trending opinion covering a variety of topics. Things are hot and cold fast... When Alek said after a day a thread is buried ie...ancient..he was right...topics flow like water there.

I agree 100% with helping new players and I have often mentioned when "Newbies" are being harassed, that we are ALL newbies at one point or another. If we honestly welcome the new folks, show them what a blast this game and server are then we should keep this alive longer and with more enthusiasm for the future. PLUS,......new folks are a ton of fun to kill!
:-)
I spent a whole map yesterday, Stalingrad, showing a newbie how to climb down from the ladders without falling. Difficult to do when continually getting shot at by opposing team. it was fun though!
today, we will continue the lesson with......how to climb up the ladders to look under your moms bed!
