~ (Tilde) key on Japanese keyboard

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a Japanese keyboard and neither pressing the " ~ " key nor the " ` " key brings up the console.
Goggled the problem and didn't find any quick solutions.
Haven't tried a Japanese search, because my Japanese is just plain awful.

I'm hoping that someone has heard of this issue and knows how to help me out.
I've tried a few simple things like holding alt + ~ and Shift + ~.
Then I tried pushing every button on my keyboard with different combinations - nothing worked but when I closed BF42 I had all sorts of things open, browsers, calculators, etc.

Anyroad,

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers.

WS

Wow! That's an incredible keyboard! Mines a little different. It must be an old style one.
It's got 12 kanji on each key, 250 keys, that's over 2,500 Japanese characters!
I feel sorry for the buggers that had to use that!
It's got the entire English alphabet on just three keys!

Still don't see the ~ button though...

Now THAT looks like something that can help me.  I'll need a fresh mind before I start playing around with my PC though.

Thanks a lot!

Have you managed to assign console key to another one?

Re: ~ (Tilde) key on Japanese keyboard

Hi!

I only just now sorted out my keyboard issues.  It was actually pretty stupidly easy, so for anyone who has a foreign keyboard (mine's Japanese) and you can't open the console window, then try this; go into control panel and select Clock, Language and Regions, then click Change Keyboards and other Input Methods, then select Keyboard and Languages and Change Keyboards.  Then add a US keyboard (just the standard one), at the top drop box select the US keyboard as the default one and close all the windows by clicking OK.

Note' This is for Windows 7 64bit.

Now the console window can be opened in game by pushing the button under the escape key.  On a Japanese keyboard this is the "半角/全角/漢字" button.

Now, all my other buttons are screwed up though, but fortunately its easy enough to change the keyboard back to Japanese.

Thanks for all the good advice - it lead me in the right direction!

I don't actually know what to do with the console though... any advice???

Re: ~ (Tilde) key on Japanese keyboard

If you don't know what the console can be used for, then you don't need to mess up your keyboard settings. smile But, I am sure you don't have to change to US keyboard to access console, you just have to assign console binding to a new key. It's not that difficult.
You can type in console, for example, fps 1, hud 0, name "Winston S.", ftk, suicide, ignore 0, buddy 0 and see for yourself what they do. More about console commands: http://battlefield2.filefront.com/info/ … mands_Full
