Battlefield 1942 Win 8

So I managed to install it and got it to work on the first try but now it always crashes in the middle of joining a server. I can´t reinstall it (don´t have cd´s here) and I am using the no-cd fix. Anyone encountered such an error before and knows a solution ? Btw. on Win7 starting bf with x fire normally fixed that issue for me not the case with fancy win8.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try it without xfire? Shut down xfire and then open Bf and join via Serverlist.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

Like, it's explained in that post try first Windows XP SP3 compatibility and to run with administrator rights, if BF1942 does not stop crashing you need to apply that compatibility database. It says for Windows Vista and 7, but it should work for Windows 8, too. Please, leave feedback, i would like to know if it solves in Windows 8.

Ok seems to work. Sunny´s a magican. But I would like to have my resolution slightly different. Can someone tell me how to stretch the 800x600 resolution to the whole widescreen? I always played like that and I don´t wanne change it.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

It doesn't work with Win8 @ Zody

- It crashes while loading.
- After you run it again, it might just crash again.
- After these ^ you will get the error 'CD KEY IN USE'.
- After all of the above steps you will be able to join.

I have the same problems, but my Xfire is even more bugged, because I have the BF1942 - Origin & the BF1942 - Original game.
It makes me unable to use Xfire while playing on servers you can only join by having an original CDkey & it makes me unable to use Xfire in any game exept Origin - BF1942. tongue

Maybe you can try to set the resolution of your desktop to 800x600 first and then start the game.

Btw this freeware makes it easier to change the resolution very quickly: http://www.chip.de/downloads/MultiRes_13007417.html

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

By the way, Windows XP SP3 compatibility still gave me lots of crashes so I set the compatibility to Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5, and now it's much better. If any of you are still having problems, you can try this.

Choose 800x600 in Video menu and run BF1942 in fullscreen mode.

Zody, I'm not an expert with Windows 8 thus I cannot help you.
But if really you wish to play, I think that it's possible to create a partition on your hard disk with a less recent Windows and it should work.

It's also possible. When computer starts, there will be two operating systems to choose.

If all else fails you could try virtualbox, or something the like.

edit: i knew i had seen it somewhere here http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic. … 852#p37852

Maybe that cameyo could work without taking up a lot of resources, havent tested it it myself so i dont know if it can emulate win xp surroundings

edit2: well that cameyo program seems to be needing a virtual machine for the process anyway.

Note: packaging has to be done on a clean virtual machine. Avoid packaging on your own machine or any machine which has other software & components installed on it. It is recommended to capture on an XP machine.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

Made a test file with that cameyo program, its the HD version fresh install on a virtual xp machine. Worked fine when i tried it but it took a while to load, both at startup and at map load.

You can get the file here if you want to give it a try http://ks3353793.kimsufi.com/bfcameyo/B … cameyo.exe

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

Yeah you have to install the quest-addon in virtualbox and then activate 3D-settings in the machine before you start it or something like that, may have to install the guest files in windows safe-mode, it was like that before but they may have fixed it now.

I dont think you need to install the cameyo program to run it but im not sure cus i had already installed it when i tried smile

Re: Battlefield 1942 Win 8

You can use an old harddisk to install another OS to play older games. Newer mainboards support the choice of the booting primary Harddisk by pressing a f-key, while starting your PC.

The only thing, what you have to care about, is to disconnnect your WinVista/7/8 Harddisk, while installing as example WinXP. After finished installation, you shut down your PC, connect the original Harddisk, and while starting you press the f-key to choose, from which harddisk you want to start.

About this BootingChoice, you find informations in the manual from your mainboard. Asus is as exp. F11. If some OEM PC's/MB support this too, you can find out.

If somebody needs help to find out, if it's possible or not, write a PM.
