Hi to all BF1942-enthusiasts,
I recently got the FH mod working on Win7 32-bit.
But somehow I couldnt manage to get widescreen resolution.
Searching the net for that issue resulted in finding a patch replacing the original BF1942.exe file.
Customizing the video.con in ...\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom seems
to work for BF1942 without mods only.
Is there a way to modify some files manually in order to get a widescreen resolution?
You need to download Battlefield 1942 v1.61 No CD and widescreen fix. Then select your resolution in Video menu inside the game. There is no need to edit .con files and make them read-only.
thx for reply, tuia! I've already considered applying these files but didnt get happy with it.
It's working well on my WinXP machine by just modifying the .con file. Is this just an issue on Win7?
Isn't there any other method to get it work?
Without using any modified BF1942.exe that support widescreen resolutions, what you get by editing video.con file at a higher resolution is a stretched image. Compare images in Battlefield 1942 | WSGF and in Battlefield Vietnam | WSGF and you'll see the differences. Battlefield Vietnam does not have widescreen support.
I have never tested on any mods, Forgotten Hope or Desert Combat, the widescreen executable at high resolutions, but i am positive it has to work. Problem with Windows 7 and Windows Vista, is that BF1942 crashes if you don't use compatibility mode.
Neither the patch nor manually editing the .con files seem to work for the Forgotten Hope mod.
I didnt get ahead but could make out that Win98/WinMe compatibility mode is the reason for that problem - contrary to WinXP mode used for BF1942.
Enabling WinXP mode causes Forgotten Hope to crash during loading procedure.

I fixed the error caused by wrong path to animation file of one of the hand weapons
