Re: Room of Culture

Ilya Repin - Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to Sultan Mehmed IV of the Ottoman Empire, also known as Cossacks of Saporog Are Drafting a Manifesto 1880 - 1891

Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks depicts a supposedly historical tableau, set in 1676, and based on the legend of Cossacks sending a reply to an ultimatum of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed IV

5f0e4cd7dc416ed711b3214e89ac0328.jpg

Sultan Mehmed IV to the Zaporozhian Cossacks:

As the Sultan; son of Muhammad; brother of the sun and moon; grandson and viceroy of God; ruler of the kingdoms of Macedonia, Babylon, Jerusalem, Upper and Lower Egypt; emperor of emperors; sovereign of sovereigns; extraordinary knight, never defeated; steadfast guardian of the tomb of Jesus Christ; trustee chosen by God Himself; the hope and comfort of Muslims; confounder and great defender of Christians - I command you, the Zaporogian Cossacks, to submit to me voluntarily and without any resistance, and to desist from troubling me with your attacks.

--Turkish sultan Mehmed IV

The Cossacks' reply

The Cossacks' reply came as a stream of invective and vulgar rhymes, parodying the Sultan's titles:

Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are you, that can't slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil excretes, and your army eats. You will not, you son of a bitch, make subjects of Christian sons; we've no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, frick your mother.

You Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-frick of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw your own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

    - koshovyi otaman Ivan Sirko, with the whole Zaporozhian Host.

This guy on a show I watch always says something like there's 2 things that are important to all cultures and tells the story about the people: music (including song and dancing) and food. Everywhere you go, even areas that are close to each other, there are still differences that make each special.

He went from nailing his ball sack and sewing his mouth to just lighting fires? That's disappointing.

He was arrested already for burning the doors of the Federal Security Service building in Russia but France provided him political asylum as for a fighter against the bloody Putin's regime.

This is the best version, in my opinion, of Jean Sibelius Symphony no. 1, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. I think it is performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Hope you enjoy it, too.

Re: Room of Culture

I was thinking about starting a "arts & crafts" thread, but will add to this instead. I found this guitar while driving down the street on top of a trash heep. I grabbed it thinking I could make a lamp out of it.
GlmbVM8.jpg

But now I'm thinking of cutting the neck and use the body as a table with the neck being a lamp mounted on one end.
