Damned Gamespy

Was a long search to find the problem and a solution!

Gamespy was working on all servers this night, now many (most, if not all) players have the problem that they currently can't find
a server, respectively it will hang up...
Normal Gamelaunch does nothing... over Xfire ... do all so nothing...

The Solution now to play on SiMPLE BF1942:

Create an account on Gametracker, download it, then when you start it, go on server Enter  Ip: 188.165.220.115 Port:14567

Or directly over this side: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/ … 115:14567/

when you add this server as favorite it stands automatically in Serverconnection.

Sorry for my bad English, but i hope you understand what i say wink

Re: Damned Gamespy

Yes, Gamespy master server is down, or better is not responding to requests. If you try to connect from in the game, you click Multiplay and then Internet button, it will lock your computer. I think this a temporary problem, I've seen it before.
You can connect to any BF1942 server from Xfire.

Re: Damned Gamespy

I also experienced some problems with it. Another program you may want to try out is QTracker: http://www.qtracker.com/

It's a pretty good server browser and lets you connect to a server directly similar to gametracker, but Qtracker has quite a few more helpful features.

Re: Damned Gamespy

Lots of players use the in-game server browser to connect to servers, unfortunately. This is a BF1942.exe flaw, it should not lock if there is no response from GameSpy master server, you should be able to browse your Server and Favorites list, without updating them.

Re: Damned Gamespy

it does release the game after certain time setting and then you can use favourites and such. its just that it takes forever so most people think the game has stopped. dunno where this timeout setting is tho, it may be hardcoded in the exe.

Re: Damned Gamespy

There is also this old trick

Right-click a shortcut to Battlefield and click copy.
Right-click an empty space on your desktop and click paste.
Right-click your new BF shortcut copy and choose re-name.
Re-name copy of shortcut to the server you want it to join.
Eg Play SIMPLE FRA
Right-click your new server shortcut and choose properties.
In the Target: section, it should read "C:Program FilesEA GamesBattlefield 1942BF1942.exe"

You need to now add your command-line switches, these are
+restart 1 (skips movies and adds) optional
+joinServer IP:PORT (adds the direct link) case sensitive

Your new taget line should read (for SIMPLE FRA)
"C:Program FilesEA GamesBattlefield 1942BF1942.exe" +restart 1 +joinServer 188.165.220.115:14567

Re: Damned Gamespy

I've made some pictures to exemplify the previous post.

1st - Go to your Battlefield 1942 directory and create a shortcut in the desktop:
9657719Captured1.png

2nd - Go to your desktop and rename the shortcut to anything you like:
2272778Captured2.png

3rd - Right click and click Properties:
1680096Captured3.png

4th - If you want a shortcut to SiMPLE | BF1942 No key [FRA] append +restart 1 +joinServer 188.165.220.115:14567 to the Target box:
4633328Captured4.png

If you want to create a shortcut to another server, just change the server IP address and port accordingly.

Re: Damned Gamespy

GameSpy master server is not responding to queries once again. Maybe this was EA's birthday present to the BF1942 community. When you click the MULTIPLAY > INTERNET button, BF1942 client tries to connect to master.gamespy.com to retrieve the servers list. It waits till it times out, around 6 seconds, but the worst thing is it tries to connect every time to master.gamespy.com for every server listed in your ServerList.dat file. So, it's around 200 x 6 seconds until it's unlocked. I've looked at the BF1942 code and this can be patched.

Re: Damned Gamespy

I hate EA games from day to day even more, they release game and forget about it after 2-3 years...
money is most important seems so, they will start releasing battlefield game every year just to make more and more and more money...pff

Re: Damned Gamespy

I've made a patch to avoid locking the game at the menu for some minutes if the master.gamespy.com server is not accepting connections. They should have fixed this long time ago, it's a stupid coding mistake. As can be seen, if GameSpy is down or not accepting queries the number of BF1942 players drops drastically.
