Aside from d3d8to9, you have to use DXVK alongside it to be recognized by the GPU for recording DirectX 8 games:
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvkJust copy the d3d9.dll from the DXVK's x86 folder and drop it inside Battlefield 1942 main directory where the .exe is located.
I have the d3d9.DLL file in my main folder, but it still doesn’t work. Is there an additional file I need, like that d3d8tod9?
Yes.
The only caveat of d3d8to9's d3d8.dll + d3d9.dll from DXVK combo is the switching (i.e. Alt + Tab) to desktop was kinda wonky (for now) in BF1942.
If you get stuck in the main desktop, just clicking the BF1942 in the taskbar to resume gameplay.
