could be anything, make sure you don't have some server instance already running and the one run from bfsmd can't bind to ports because they're already bound
use netstat/lsof/fuser to check

try to flush firewall rules if it's possible that they interfere with bfsmd <-> bf1942 communication

use tcpdump (on both eth and lo interfaces) to see why bfsmd can't connect to rcon (port 4711)

looks like bfsmd is unable to connect rcon port of the server
no firewall blocking it? did you start the server from bfsm so rcon passwords match? do you have remote console enabled? password set?

last night you were saying something about that your're not sure if your nvidia or intel card is used?
so are you sure your have monitor plugged to your nvidia card instead of the onboard intel one? (although even that should be probably fine to run this game)
i'd also disable onboard video in BIOS

here are a few things I'd like to mention as a reaction to you, your posts and last but not least, your personality.

Yes, I can be considered a newcomer to this game. Although I've first played it in 2002 and did so over the following years until now, with smaller and bigger breaks, I'm relatively random noone, never used to talk in game, played on many servers I don't even remember their names, never tried to make some friends in game, it was a just an evening fun for me (and this didn't change, I play for fun, not stats, fame, whatever).

On the other hand (and I hate to write this part because bragging is something I despise and it might be considered as doing so), I think I've brought some positive things to BF1942 community, I'll mention a few things that I think are worth mentioning, in chronological order

1. When Origin came out, there were no official linux servers available for it. They're still not and probably never be. I figured out how to modify existing 1.61 server to act like Origin server. Many servers today use this. You don't have to care, some people might. (and what's ironic, as a sign of gratitude my server was DDoS'd by some idiot who was trying to get some people to his server which was running my modified server binary. But that's fine, the world isn't perfect)

2. As a next step, it was again me who figured out how to patch the server more to enable all players with 1.6+ version to play at the same server. Again, used quite a lot and I think I won't be very far from truth if I say that currently the most players play on a server running these modifications of mine.

3. I've figured out how to prevent most random server crashes that are in server code since 2002. I bet you remember SiMPLE used to crash sometimes even few times a day and how annoying it was. Well, it's mostly gone (anyone can correct me if I'm wrong). I did it for me, I did it for tuia, I did it for all SiMPLE players, you included. You don't have to thank me, noone needs to. But it's a fact.

4. I run a server of mine for an almost a year now. A server which (if stats aren't way off), 142637 unique players (or let's say keyhashes, we all know how this stuff works) visited. A server that actually some people like. It isn't exactly the most pro server ever. Probably more close to the contrary. But still, it's usually full of players and there are always some wonderful players I have fun to play with. I'm trying to make it a nice place for people to play, I often fail but never stop trying. That's why I never liked when you played there, I was many times one click from kicking you for your annoying behaviour but always stopped myself. And I admit that was wrong. And that's the reason why you didn't get the admin rights too. I'm sorry that I even didn't reply to your mail where you asked for them, I was thinking for some time how to phrase it so you don't get offended and then just let it be. But yes, that was not nice.

So to sum it up, these are my achievements and stuff I brought to BF1942 community. It might be not much but I did my best.

And now the nasty part, I again apologize but I need to put it this way.

Lecter, now it's your turn. Please impress me, I love to be impressed. Tell me what you did for BF1942 community and why I should respect you. You can skip that part where you were admin on some greatest server in the universe for 20 years and you probably kicked and banned thousands if not more people. I've heard that already zillion times. Give me something new, something else than "I headshot everyone while producing neanderthal sounds in game chat".

I admire some people in this community, for all they've done for it. Be it tuia with all the hard work he put into many aspects of BF1942, his server where I used to love to play, be it bud with his extensive modding skills, be it countless people who created wonderful maps, mods, run (not just kick and ban) nice servers, liga admins who try to keep this dying game competitive and most of all, the players that still come to this game to have fun.

So if i'm a noone, who are you and what did you do except annoying me for 1 year I've spent on this server?
