Also you have all the IP addresses of the different servers, you can always join directly by creating a bf1942.exe shortcut on your desktop and editing it like this for example for Simple:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +restart 1 +joinServer 188.165.220.115:14567

They are allowed to ignore it. Shooting friendly vehicles however is not allowed.

I thought everybody knew about is, it can be very helpful if you want to escape quickly.

Btw another option would be Windows Vista, it is still supported for another 3 years.

Do you guys plan on upgrading to Windows 7 anytime soon then? I was pretty surprised that it worked very well on my 7-year-old laptop. I thought that it would slow down my machine but it didn't.

It is an interesting option and I have managed to run BF1942 on Linux with "Wine" and it worked pretty fine. But speaking from many years of experience with Linux on the Desktop I wouldn't recommend this OS to most people. The amount of available software is quite limited compared to Windows and also you still have to type in some console commands for sometimes pretty simple stuff. Linux is interesting for people who are willing to learn and invest time but not for most people.
