Not sure if it's the same on the FRA server, but on the USA server if you are playing as, i.e. "Catpain Blackadder" and change your name mid-game to "CB Fakename" it generates a server message that says something like "CB Fakename == Catpain Blackadder." He may have seen that message.
What about getting ban for saying cockroach, while people keep talking racist things in chat and admins even tolerate them ? Is that intended too ? Even more ... any of this words you may or may not use in normal conversation could get you banned:
[list omitted]
Those are based on just two of the forbidden words, I don't know how many and which are the forbidden words, but in English language there are just over a million. The chance to say something that may contain forbidden word in itself is quite big , and if you do that 5 times you get banned ... Yet you haven't offended anyone or disturbed the gameplay of others in any way, but people who do that are tolerated or ignored by admins and that's fair ?!
My point is that you shouldn't be having a normal conversation during the game. Keep it related to the current game for the most part. Admins don't !bspam for one off-topic remark, but if it gets too much it disrupts the game for other players who are trying to see relevant messages or the battlefield, without a bunch of unwanted text blocking the view.
The list can't be perfect, and it does miss some things, but I will warn people if they are using racist language or other things the server doesn't catch. The only word on your list that I think would ever fit the context of the game is "bushwhack" maybe, so I don't believe that this is as big a problem as you're making it out to be. There also can be false positives. Again, pay attention to the yellow server messages and messages from admins. If you see a warning, think about what you said that might have triggered it and try not to use that word. You should get two automated warnings before the server kicks you for language, so it isn't that difficult to avoid a kick, let alone a ban.
Having words like "hack" and "cheat" on the forbidden word list is intended to discourage people from making accusations of cheating. They're not really curse words, but shouldn't be needed for normal in-game conversations. You need to pay attention when the system is giving you warnings, especially if an admin tells you that you need to pay attention to them.
On the USA server I probably would have started with warnings for chat spam, because it sounds like you were carrying on a conversation unrelated to the current game. It looks like it went on long enough for you to get kicked at least three (possibly five) times for using forbidden words, so it must have been a fairly long conversation. That can be disruptive and doesn't really belong in the game, because other players want to see the battlefield, not someone's off-topic conversation.
The direction I never anticipate here is staying on topic.
They did used to call them unmentionables!
I turn off map vote after the second or third failed vote (usually for the same map, which is usually Stalingrad) within the same game. As I've said before, if the vote fails the first three times, it's probably going to fail the fourth time. By that point it's just a disruption that blocks a significant portion of peoples' screens.
Where do you think the base ends? The jeeps that spawn at the base are on the base. Also note that the dirt pile at the corner that leads into the base is an Allied spawn point, and spawn points are a lot of the reason there are rules against attacking a main base. Even if someone is shooting out of a main base, you still have to take care not to kill or wound innocent bystanders on the base.
I agree it can be frustrating when the map gets switched from something I like or to something I don't like. That said, I also agree with what Whoopz said. I will turn off map voting on the USA server for that reason after a couple of unsuccessful votes. I figure if the vote for Stalingrad has failed three times already during the current game, odds are it's going to fail the fourth and fifth times as well.
Good job there. I noticed myself standing on the deck when the first video started. Sorry I didn't say hello back but I didn't see it in chat with all the excitement going on behind me. I actually remember that first crash pretty well. I heard the plane coming in and turned to see what was going on, and CRASH! I'm not sure if he hit the pole first or the Val that spawned in front of him.
Anyway, hi!
where in the rules is it written that that specific map (aberdeen) is a uncap base ?? how would a newer player know this rule if its not written on the rules page http://team-simple.org/rules/
I usually play on USA, so I wasn't familiar with the special situation on this map. I recently learned that it was an uncap when I was approaching the flag to try to capture it and started taking death bubble damage. I thought that was learning it the hard way, but apparently it wasn't.
I think it's multiple files. Look in C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings. It may be that your settings are not getting saved because of a permissions issue, so you might try changing permissions on that folder. For control settings you might dig down further from this folder into C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom\Controls and you should see files named Air.con, Common.con, Infantry.con, and Land.con. These might be what you are looking for.
Can you PLEASE take this discussion to the Off-Topic section? This section is for reporting abuse on the game server, not politics and religion.
I checked the shortcut I regularly use to start the game, and it is set for Windows 98 compatibility. I don't think I run as administrator.
Best to ignore him now; it's obvious he doesn't want help as much as he wants to insult.
Probably should check into who gave him a ban etc., though, in case it's related to our recent server issue.
Flying over an enemy base isn't against the rules. Maybe he was banned for something else? I do agree that a ban should usually come after a warning and then a kick, unless it was something really blatant. I guess we need to hear from whoever banned him.
I also saw him get kicked for minus score on Bocage on FRA server an hour or two ago, but didn't see what he was doing.
"This is my rifle,
This is my gun.
This is for fightin',
This is for fun!"
How about this one:
HAPPY BIG BANANA DAY!
I thought this was funny, but I capped a flag the other night while flying a P-51 on Market Garden. The game had just started, and I was flying to the steel bridge flag because that's where all the German tanks head to in the beginning. As I flew over the flag (once) I heard the voice indicating a capped flag, and then I noticed I somehow had three points. The only thing I could think of was that my teammates were capping it just as I flew over. I wish I could say it was skill, however it was just about the easiest three points I ever got.
Now where did that screen shot go...
Which server was it, i.e. USA, FRA, etc?
He saw the planes coming in while they were out of visual range.
He may have just heard them and started firing in the direction of the sound before they were in sight.
Was the ban, by any chance, for chat spam?
This one's for you, SurrenderMonkey:
Reminds me of Tim Bedore's description of Minnesota: "Where the introverts stare at their shoes, and the extroverts stare at your shoes."
I don't remember exactly when I started playing, but it was probably 2004 or 2005. The game had already been out for a while, because I got Battlefield 1942 The Complete Collection (with Road to Rome, Secrets Weapons, and BF Vietnam) at Software Etc for $10.
I also downloaded a lot of mods, including BG42, but always played single-player. Later I got a similar deal for BF2 + expansion packs, but I still preferred BF1942.
Some years later my daughters started playing BF2 so one day I decided to set up a network game so we could play together on two computers. That kind of opened my eyes to how much fun multiplayer BF1942 could be. A couple of years ago I started playing Internet games of BF1942, and I now usually play on-line.
I have BF3, but don't like the scripted single-player mode, and multiplayer doesn't seem to be very flexible in what maps it will let you play either. BF2 is maybe technically better, but I much prefer the WWII era. So BF1942 is my main game. The mods I play are Forgotten Hope and Battlegroup42, but it's not as easy to find games on-line with those mods, especially BG42. I'd love to see SiMPLE run these mods every now and then.
The only other on-line game I've played much of was back in the Windows 95 days with LucasArts' Outlaws. It was a FPS with an Old West theme and was great, single- or multi-player, with a soundtrack reminiscent of Ennio Morriconi, and lots of user-created maps. I remember there was an ActiveX control in Internet Explorer that would give a list of servers, with a live chat room, which meant you could talk to people about what server everyone wanted to go to next, or just hang out. Then you could click on what you wanted to play and it would launch the game. There were also lots of web sites dedicated to the game; I just looked through some old files lying around on my server, and I found 192 bookmarks to Outlaws web sites I collected.
This topic is beginning to sound like, "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries... Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!"
Meth in the morning and heroin in the evening.
Remember:
"Heroin before meth, instant death!"
"Meth before heroin... something something... uh..."
So what does a prone jump look like? I've seen some people doing a move that I call "The Worm" (after the dance move) where they seem to be going hop-crawl-hop-crawl-hop-crawl... Is that it? If so I wouldn't say they are unhittable because I've gotten a kill or two on someone who was doing that. I do get an occasional lucky awesome shot every now and then on about the 8th, 9th, or 10th round in my magazine.
I really don't like that kind of thing, because it detracts from the realism of the game, such as it is. This also includes moves like the "machine gun shimmy" and hopping back and forth with a single-shot rifle. I know you can't get anything near perfect realism on this game, but actively doing things like that makes it less realistic. They all violate a basic principle of marksmanship: accuracy increases with holding one's weapon steady. I guess I'm more on the simulation side of the simulation vs. game spectrum.
On USA server El Alamein game that just ended, there was a disruptive player whose name I couldn't quite read, but it was three letters either "i" or "l" followed by "on," so it was "iiion," "lllon," "liion," or something like that. I first noticed him when he team wounded me, then later when I got into a plane he ran into me with a tank and pushed me backwards until my plane was destroyed. That lasted probably around 30 seconds, so it's obvious it wasn't an accidental collision. After that he TKed me, and then was shooting up planes and other vehicles on our base with his tank. At least one other person complained about him as well.
