Wouldn't that affect performance a lot? To my knowledge, a "pure" OS is generally much better than virtualization - regarding servers. I might be wrong. If I am, then it's worth considering.
I have some experience of using the virtualization (Hyper-V, VirtualBox etc) at work. For example, Windows Server 2003 R2 with terminal server role works fine in VirtualBox where the host system is Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu Server 12.04.
I recommend you to use VirtualBox because it's free by GPL, cross-platform and almost without loss of performance or functionality. You can select the amount of RAM to be allocated to the virtual machine, file type of virtual hard drive (I recommend you to use fixed VHD because it's compatible with the other virtualization software and often faster to use than dynamically allocated virtual hard drive), size of virtual hard drive, execution cap of processor etc.
If it's stable, just use your Windows XP as a guest system and something with advanced firewall as a host system.
nämeless is right, you could just swap xp for win7. The inbuilt windows 7 firewall should have enough features for your needs, bf servers runs fine on win7 to so it may be the easiest way to go.
you could also consider running a linux live-cd combined with a usb memory for setting etc.

I ran the server on Win 7 to begin with 14 days ago, but for some mysterious reason the server was quite laggy to play at.
I switched to XP, still on the same PC, and the lag got greatly reduced, I don't know why. I may return to Win 7 soon to check out if the lag is still there.
The server and client are unstable sometimes in Windows 7 x64. Try x86 but it has one minus - the limitation of Microsoft Windows 32-bit that prevents the operating system from using more than 4 Gb of RAM.

Looks like there's a software limit for certain kinds of connections in Win XP; a max of 10 per second. It may be what's affecting me.
The limit can be changed via hex-editing or patching .... gonna try it soon.

Why don't you try to make something like this one:
1. Linux as a host system.
2. Virtual machine.
3. Windows XP (or Windows Server 2003) as a guest system.
Hence, you can run Battlefield 1942 server in Windows and block IPs, subnets and ranges via iptables in Linux.
I have no Linux installed on my home PC but for example I just blocked Google DNS. It works.

I just want to clarify the situation resulting from the violation and I want you to read the rules of this server cause there are some important features that doesn't seems to be clear and easy to understanding. Also, this topic could be quite useful for you too. Thus, whether it can be considered as a violation depends on the way he got killed and where he got killed. Could you clarify this?

он то укладывается, но по опыту скажу игра будет дико тормозить и винт будет бится в истерике, работая с файлом подкачки
вообщето кроме объема оперативы есть еще такой параметр как ее скорость, она же производительность
вычисляется следующим образом- частота х 64(битность) х2 (double data rate DDR) :8 (из бит в байты)
короче если частота шины памяти гавно, то и тормозить будет, а равна она частоте front side bus. если это значение выше 200 то играть можно, если ниже, то будет чувство что ты под водой, даже если у тебя 2гига памяти
Ну это не скорость, а скорее пропускная способность, которая напрямую зависит от тактовой частоты шины. Судя по небольшому объему, у него не иначе как DDR, а там уже нужно смотреть на спецификацию: на какой частоте работает и какая у ОЗУ пропускная способность. Таблицу со спецификациями DDR я не очень хорошо помню, но ее можно нагуглить. Например, на моем старом компьютере был 1 Gb DDR по спецификации PC3200 (200 Mhz), но и этого для работы мне казалось мало, поэтому давно купил себе новый компьютер, а старый отнес в детский дом. Проще, думаю, потратить 12000-14000 рублей и купить нормальный системный блок. Не такие уж и большие деньги.

На Абердине крайняя южная база это стартовый флаг для немцев. Если ты будешь стрелять оттуда в сторону городка, то за весь раунд может быть сделаешь один фраг, да и тот — случайно. Честно говоря, я даже и не знаю, как это расценивать.

1. На Мидуэй и Коралловом море самолеты взлетают с авианосцев. Их можно сбивать в любое время. Я говорю о тех самолетах, которые взлетают с аэродромов, расположенных на главных базах — их трогать во время взлета и набора высоты нельзя.
2. Если стоять рядом и вникать в происходящее, то отличить можно.
3. Компьютер у тебя, конечно, слабоватый, но в системные требования игры ты вполне укладываешься. Надеюсь, на 512 Mb ОЗУ у тебя установлена Windows XP, а не Vista и выше, которые от твоей оперативной памяти другим приложениям ничего не оставляют и им приходится глубоко забираться в файл подкачки.

2. Обстрел вражеских самолетов на взлете это, фактически, тот же бейзрейпинг. Нужно дать пилоту возможность набрать высоту, ну а потом сбивай его. Если сможешь, конечно.
3. Это запрещенный прием, который в основном используют опытные игроки. Они знают, как стреляет техника, куда нужно целиться и с каким ориентиром, чтобы попасть в цель, которую даже и не видно, ну и, таким образом, набирают себе очки. Например, на Абердине на восточном флаге можно поставить артиллерию под определенным углом и использовать смотровую вышку в качестве ориентира для обстрела западного флага.

I understand what do you mean because I was born and live in multiconfessional secular state where the majority is Christians and atheists but there are a lot of other nationality and religious people including Muslims. In spite of my intolerance, I have nothing else to say about Islam and I know many good people who are Muslims, but it's not about them. I mean some people that are coming from Caucasus and Asia, breeding like a plague and getting citizenship for their children. For example, the population of Uzbekistanians has increased by 135.82% from 122916 people in 2002 to 289862 people in 2010. There are only legal migrants and citizens. In point of fact, nobody really knows how much of them are there. Some part of them are radical Islamists with Sharia thoughts, very wild and stupid. The population of Germans in Russia, as opposed to Uzbekistanians, has decreased by 34% from 597212 people in 2002 to 394138 people in 2010. I got this information from the official website of Russian Federal State Statistics Service.
Would be nice to be conscious that the problem only consists in difference of opinion of where to buy a plastic water.
