You'll probably have to disable Windows Error Reporting service.

#3002 Re: BF1942 Discussion » the ! commands *SOLVED* » 2012-11-13 00:31:56

Confirmed. If you have an admin with an empty keyhash, anyone can use the commands in the server. That is a bug in BFServerManager, which only got noticed, because of the new server version disabling keyhashes.
A workaround is to save a bogus keyhash in every admin, never leaving an empty keyhash field in the list.

it'd surprise me if there wasn't a sharp decline

some won't like it, some will be discouraged by the massive number of teamkilling noobs

I think there will be a slow decline, not a sharp one, mainly because of teamkillers/disrupters and cheaters.
EA could have made a good move with this, but they rushed the BF1942 free release on Origin, not worrying about fixing any bugs and glitches, server crashes, or having something simple added as native widescreen support and basic PunkBuster support. It seems they only solved the Windows Vista/7 compatibility problem and focused their attention in getting Origin integrated with BF1942. They also disabled keyhashes, probably due to technical reasons, which makes admining almost impossible. Basically, they used BF1942, not caring about the game, to get some people to sign up an Origin account. That was, and is, their main purpose, to get more numbers in Origin.

so that means that !commands are messed up too

to test, i just joined some random (empty) server with bfsm and issued !runnext
and it worked

(they probably have bfsm users with empty keyhashes and that now matches mine. and yours. and everyone's)

bah, why they have to mess up stuff that works instead of fixing real problems

Since s[sk] mentioned the !commands yesterday, i think its best to make an own topic.
With new version of battlefield, they disabled the keyhashes (tuia quote). Im not really known with this server stuff, but this is probably the reason why you can use the ingame !commands on many server. Every player(!) has access to the remote control commands.
This includes the commands to set next the next map, restart maps, run the next map, warn player, kick player, ban player (which is useless, since you dont have a key, you can just rejoin).

We (me & some pas-players) tried it on several servers.
It is possible on every (!) lowpingserver.com-server, which are the most populated servers right now.
It didnt work on EA - server -- but when i tested, i was the only player, dont know if it works with 2+ players (server restarts with more than 1 player online)

We also tried the console commands (like admin.kickplayer #). Those commands did NOT work. Only the !commands are available.

Its just a matter of time until the majority of the players will find out, that those commands are available to everyone.
Due to the fact, you have to use the ingame chat, everybody (or at least your team) can see the commands.
If these server do not change their settings, many server wont be playable anymore soon.

Thanks for the notice. I will test it and try to fix BFServerManager, if it's not a misconfiguration problem.

They've disabled keyhashes in v1.612. Battlefield 1942 v1.612 server maximum players limit raised to 128. The patched server file is also fixed against the 2 public exploits. Included a patched DedicatedServer.exe so you can select easily up to 128 players. Download: http://team-simple.org/download/BF1942_ … layers.zip

Let me rephrase it again, the server itself doesn't crash with much more than 64 players. I believe it can go to 128 players without a hitch. The record is 91 players and it was stable. It's BFServerManager that crashes when more than 80 players.

#3017 Re: Server Ban Appeals » Failed to connect to server - router problem? » 2012-11-10 13:26:18

It's not your router problem. Did you read the server rules?

#3018 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2012-11-10 13:09:14

Hi PsychoDad,

I will release 128 players server file for v1.612, today or tomorrow. I think there is no problem using BFServerManager with the new version, I haven't tested it, yet. However, keep in mind that BFServerManager is not completely patched for more than 64 players, there are still some checks and limitations, which haven't been changed, because it's boresome and I don't have the skill and time to finish it. BFServerManager works fine up to 64 players, when over 64 it may crash and with 80 players or more it crashes.
I've been examining the client executable code and trying to make a client v1.61 to connect to a server v1.612, but little progress. I could make the connection, but then it fails because of the initial "data differs from server" check.

#3019 Re: Feedback » Planes on Omaha Beach » 2012-11-09 00:58:15

You can't add spawn points server-side like you easily do in Battlecraft. It can be added spawn points, but it's a bit complicated, you have to rip off spawn points from ships and move them.

Don't write in CAPS, please. You were banned for teamkilling.

satfan, you are not banned. Do you still get the "Banned from server" message?

#3022 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2012-11-07 01:00:36

I think they will probably charge some small fee for BF1942 download from 2013-03-01, but they state that "online service for this title may be discontinued and is not guaranteed", which is of course not pleasant to know. They can shut down GameSpy services for BF1942, and no more master server list.

#3023 Re: Technical Help » New player to Multiplayer BF1942, need tips » 2012-11-07 00:56:40

HalloweenWeed, your ping is unstable to the server, because of your internet connection.
If you have version 1.61, it's the latest update you can get, you can see the version in the lower left corner of the in-game menu. That message shows up because you are trying to connect to BF1942 v1.612 servers, which can only be played, at the moment, from BF1942 downloaded from Origin.com.
Greyed named servers, are servers you can't connect to, because of running a different version than yours or running a mod you don't have (Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope, Eve of Destruction, etc.). Yellow bright ones are probably your added favorites servers.

No clue about it, Digby. You should browse Origin technical forums.

#3025 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2012-11-07 00:31:30

I played a little bit in BF1942 Origin and it's a new experience, probably similar to when BF1942 was released back in 2002. Lots of new players, crowded servers with non-modded maps and no admins present.
EA did a wrong move on purpose, which is to make original disc-based version incompatible with the new version. They could at least have released a client update to v1.612. I'll try to make a client patch, but don't think it will be easy.

EA released yesterday Battlefield 1942 as a free digital download on Origin. They included a Windows dedicated server file, so anyone can run their own dedicated server. However, EA did not do their homework, the new server version can be remotely crashed by commands, such as, game.setTeam and game.createLocalPlayer. This patched server file is fixed against those 2 exploits. Download: http://team-simple.org/download/BF1942_ … atched.zip
