Heh, I think this is one of those problems where you don't have to be logical. I've wasted some hours with it and the answer will be comical.

What's your reply to this?

As I said earlier, Tuia, once I spent one day to solve this riddle. It was in elementary school about 20 years ago.

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

nämeless, your problem was misleading. smile I looked at it and first thing i thought was, it must be some logical or arithmetic operations with those hexadecimal numbers. But after some time, i concluded it's just not solvable. After seeing hexadecimal numbers, I could not change my mind. It's hard to switch back from one point of view to another. Anyway, I did not expect you were so deceptive and made us all waste hours trying to solve a basic problem, I thought it could involve some complex operations. smile

Tuia, here is the explanation.

Take it easy, it's just a riddle for children. It was for you personally because you are not a child and if you see something like "1A8C", you think it's hexadeсimal. smile

try free software for 10 days  mac, "crossover" emulates windows...i installed it, can open origin but the download just sits there....of course, i am not IT savvy so have no clue what i am doing wrong, will have to wait till my son comes over to check it.

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

So... this modified .exe is very relevant to my interests as well. I can't stand origin.

Any way you could post the patch contents or the bytes we should edit to do it ourselves?

Edit: I have 1942 working in Linux via PlayOnLinux/Wine! However, Origin is very clunky, especially running in this configuration... this exe would be very helpful.

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

FYI everyone, NoFate, a BF3 hacker, has made a site that strips out the Origin requirements from each Origin game's .par files and spits out a replacement .par file to put in its place. This means that most Origin games that don't depend on the Origin .exe in memory can be run without starting Origin or having it open.

Here's the site: http://par.nofate.me/

Just tried it, works great.

Also, in regards to OP: tuia has released a modified .exe in the "1942 released for free" thread which does exactly what you want.

Thanks for the information, it's great. It works flawlessy with BF1942, but I prefer my solution. tongue It has widescreen fix included and starts just a little bit faster.

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

i replaced the origin bf1942.exe with the modified one from tuia and battlefield is working without problems...
i can see 1.61 and 1.6 servers in the game browser as well but i can't join... for example to SiMPLE.
i still get the message "Data differs from server"

is this meant to be as it is or is my game bugged?

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

Repair your BF1942 Origin install or reinstall the game:

8001992bf1942-origin-repair-install.png

This will reset all your game settings (video, sound, controls). Then copy file from the package (BF1942.exe) to your Origin GamesBattlefield 1942 folder.

Re: Does anyone have a 1942 exe that doesn't start Origin?

Thanks for that!

So far it is working fine. I can connect to 1.612 server and the SiMPLE server. However, when i try to connect e.g. to {FG} Aberdeen only which is declared as 1.61 without punkbuster i get the error message "invalid cd-key"! Is this some server side restriction?

I get the same error message when i try to connect to 1.61 servers that have punkbuster enabled. But i think that is normal, right?

Further, when i try to connect to BiHnet BF1942 1.6 (no punkbuster) i get the error message "failed to connect to server"
shouldn't it be possible to connect to 1.6 as well?

you can't connect to 1.61 servers that check keys with your origin key
if you have valid key, you can try to copy it to origin's ergc in registry

no, unless server is patched

Thanks for the tipp, ssk!
replacing the origin cd-key with the one from my cd version works fine!

Seems like i still need my installation of the cd version in case i want to play on a punkbuster servers.
Anyway many thanks for that modified exe and all the work you guys put in that game.

but you don't need origin installation

just rename that exe from zip to something like bf1942_origin.exe and put it into your cd game dir
then you just run either bf1942.exe or bf1942_origin.exe, depending on the version you want

the rest of files is the same
