No, but I guess I should've added the option "More serious, less trolling".

Is this vote for planes in game or for real?

And keep the vote results hidden until they vote.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen you flying...

I think corsair was the best plane of WW2. Its really high speed and maneuvering abilities made it extremely strong foe for Japs, who by that time had Zero (similar to Corsair, tho with worse shooting system(?) and penetration skill).

--
But I'm really not sure whether Spitfire was better than Yak-3... As I can tell based on BF42, they're quietly similar.

Voted for the Spitfire due to it's iconic status and the fact I get the odd one or two flying over my house every so often due to my proximity to Bletchley Park.
The noise of that Merlin engine gives me goosebumps.

Used to get the odd Lancaster doing a flyover and even a Vulcan bomber  smile

Re: Doubt about best plane of WW2 in general (excluding jets).

This is a compromised poll.

You aks for the best plane in WW2, but the votes are done by the experience from the Game smile

Mustang was only good if there was no flak or gunners on ground around. It had a weak spot on the underside. 1 Shot there and it overheated. This was the reason that it was only very short in service.

The Zero was at the beginning the best plane, together with the BF-109 E. (Later the BF-109 F, the Spitfire MK-XIV and the Mustang P-51).

If you really ask for the best plane, then it was the ME-262 or so.

If Adolf would have had some brain, it would have been massproduced in 1941. But he loved just Tanks and Blitzkrieg smile

At the end it was also important who flew the plane. Due the Kamikaze Tactics of the Japs, they runned out of good pilots. And anyway at Midway they lost most of them.

At the end, it's difficult to choose the best plane ... specially when you ask addicted Bf1942 Players smile

...

Günther Rall shot down 8 Mustangs with his Bf109-F in one fight 8 vs 1. (He fought at BOB and the Westfront.)

He said, under 5000M the Mustang was better, but beyond 5000 the Bf109 was much better.

Re: Doubt about best plane of WW2 in general (excluding jets).

There's another problem.

From most planes they build so many variantes. Except perhaps the Zero and Aichi's.

And so it's really difficult to say which one was the best, just by name.

I just read from the KI-84, which was also very good, but it came late and the Serial Production Planes were weaker then the Prototyp, but still on the level of a Corsair.

...

Btw. When they took out the Mustangs from service they sold it for 1$. smile

...

The Yak 3 came late and the first variants overheated very fast and then the war was over.  smile

...

If the germans would have had Zeros, they could have been perhaps succesfull at the Island.

The biggest Problems at BOB was the short range of the Bf109. They could fight just around 15 minutes.

The Zero had a range from up to 3100km, (vs. the Bf109 660km).

I have heard that when japonese pilot crossed the pacific some of them just fall asleep and splashed in the ocean because pilots were very tired but the plane could fly more km.

Well, Japs had to rely on battleships and airplanes because of the terrain/map they fought.

One question tho. Few days I watched a documentary on Youtube about Mitsubishi A6M (c.k.a Zero), and it specified that Zero was made of aluminium steel, and was so weak that even when pilots put their feets on the wing it got damaged (later version(s) had a special fixing to that). Because of this, Zeros could float in the water. Is this true?

They had also no self sealing tanks and they used Petroleum, which was high flammable. (There was also no armor behind the Pilots seat.)

The KamikazePlanes which they used to defend Okinawa had fabric wings and they runned with Alcohol, but just enough for one way smile

He explaines everything in those 3 vids. The Zeros had a big advantage until 1943, (vs. Wildcat), but then, ... the weaknesses of the zeros were completly exposed by the Thundercats etc.

They've chosen that route to sacrifice protection of their aircraft both the IJA and IJN in favor of longer combat range due to nature of expeditionary warfare the Japanese are dealing with.

The KamikazePlanes which they used to defend Okinawa had fabric wings and they runned with Alcohol, but just enough for one way smile

...

In the closing stage of the war, the situation at that time in Japan was very desperate as they had almost (some parts of China and the entire Korean peninsula was still in their possession before they've surrendered to Allied powers) losing access to raw materials like oil from the conquered territories which liberated later on by the Allies. Not to mention the lines of communication was already cutoff due to severe air and naval blockade and at the same time, the IJN was already ceased as an effective fighting force to the point that their remaining surface fleet had to be converted to static AA defense against Allied air raid within Japanese homeland.
