Re: Ryzen tests

How are you cooling that 2500k Arkos?  It's hard to recall the speed that I achieved with stock cooler,
but it's currently running stock.  Here's a pic from last time it was out of the rack:

i5-2500k-rig.jpg

New PSU has a short 20(4) cable which barely reaches.
I may replace/extend it, but it works..

Nice setup! I see a mechanical disk but no onboard SSD (m.2)... seriously?

(i love the open air setup, i used to have bare metal like that but it died, a friend.. well.. lets say he drinks too much wine, and loves to stare at the hardware instead of the bloody screen)

The Stock cooler is crap smile

You could buy a cheap TowerCooler. It depends how much place you have in your case. Otherwise a custom Top Flow Cooler.

There are many tests around. Look for good cooling @ low noise and cheap price. For ~30 Euros you can find good coolers.

I have an old CoolerMaster V8

Image BBCode test

but a good solution in the moment would be the Alpenföhn Brocken 2 or even a Arctic Freezer 13 which is cheaper. But there are many others, also not that expensive.

https://www.alpenfoehn.de/produkte/ausl … ken-2-pcgh

It depends also how expensive the different coolers are in your area.

https://www.zockergear.de/beste-cpu-kuehler/#tab-con-11

https://www.technic3d.com/review/kuehle … t/4.htm#oc

...

There are cooler which you can mount on AMD and Intels. Others are just for one system, but mostly multiple sockets, (Your socket is 1155).

You should also read first how to mount a specific cooler. Some are complicated, others not that much.

Re: Ryzen tests

But it seemse you have only space for a Top Flow Cooler.

As example the "Alpenföhn Panorama"

The https://www.alternate.ch/Alpenf%C3%B6hn … uct/136267

...

Or the Rajintec Zelos is also cheap, around 25 Euros

https://www.amazon.de/Raijintek-0R10000 … B00IAPWRTE

But the Alpenföhn Panorama is better at Full load

...

Top Blow coolers are not that good as Towercoolers and the better pieces cost too much.

Here is a test from Top Flow Coolers. As Example, the Pallas is really good cooling, but also louder at higher temperatures.

This is an old board, iCQ.  They've not yet supported M.2 or NVME.
That 120gb SATA SSD holds the O/S and other software tho.

It is an open rack (Navepoint 9u).  I've added supports for the three heavier systems in it.
Just makes it easier to mount/unmount when necessary.

With a shallow depth of 16",  I couldn't find ATX chassis so I built "shorties" from shelves.
Many more mods coming for the rack at some point..

Yes, not much height currently.  You've listed some very good choices.
The only reason that I'd replace it is if the stock'r fails tho.
In it's current role as home server, there isn't a need to o/c.

EDIT:  by the way, my 1700x rig has this highly-rated cooler which was on sale:

The ryzen 3000 are allready nice, but now they launched a new Bios on the 7th/8th

Citation 8th July, Andantech.

"We notice a significant change in the CPU’s boosting behaviour, (with newest Bios), now boosting to higher frequencies, and particularly at a faster rate from idle, more correctly matching AMD’s described intended boost behaviour and latency."

Re: Ryzen tests

Guru3D's conclusion

Zitat:

The sun is shining bright on AMD for the Ryzen 3000 series. Both the 3700X and 3900X have managed to impress me. In the more serious workloads, these things rip a hole through the clouds in the sky.

The fact that I am comparing a 329 USD (MSRP) 8-core 3700X processor with a 599 USD (MSRP) Core i9 9900K feels weird, even while typing this conclusion - yeah think about that fact for a second. So how important you deem a few % difference in the lowest resolutions, is only for you to judge.

With a card like the Radeon 5700 (XT) or RTX 2070/2080, you'll be hard-pressed to even notice a difference.

If we look at desktop workloads with compression software, content creation(s), transcoding and whatever, AMD pretty much is bitch-slapping Intel. There is no other logical conclusion we can draw here. I mean heck, the 12-core 499 USD 3900X is beating 16-core 2000 USD costing products and platforms like a little b....  well you know the word.

I'm still rating game perf as really good - just not super excellent - but that also has a lot to do with the fact that some games sometimes are better suited and developed on and for Intel platforms. For everything and anything else, AMD is sweeping the floor with Intel, offering safer and less vulnerable processors as well. That last remark on vulnerabilities is a very valid one and I am serious about this, I plan to upgrade all work systems to Ryzen 3000 as it is the safer processor series and platform to use.

Re: Ryzen tests

Yes... they have a hard thirst stretch behind them.

Let's say, I'm really happy for AMD. It's very good for the CPU/Graficcard-Market.

Just wait for 2020, when AMD brings a HighEnd Graficcard. The 5700XT is also pretty good and cheaper then nVidias counterpart.

The new Ryzens are very good for people who want stream and meanwhile it looks even better, since they know about the UEFI Bug and fixed some other bugs in Bios.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3aEv3EzMyQ

Btw. There is an issue in UEFI until now. You have to set the Memory Speed manually, otherwise you loose some speed.

The Benchmarks were done with RamSpeed on Auto, they did not knew it. In 2 weeks or so we will know more.

A good cheap solution > a Ryzen 3600 and a 2080. (Measured in FulHD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXRHanb-BmY

And i bet, there's still some space for better performance between some weeks.

...

If i would buy a complete new system, i would buy a Ryzen 3000 and a 5700XT.

But i have still a Asus Strix 1080 Ti OC here, waiting in a dark carton on a new Ryzen, but i wait a bit, until the bugs are fixed.

...

The other thing are the prices for the x570 Boards. I'm thinking also about a AsRock x470 Taichi.

...

Not to forget, that those RX 5700 cards are much faster in streaming. They have 6 streams at once or more instead of 2 like nVidia's 1080ti, (RTX's only 1), and CAS, upscaling to as exp. 4K delievers a superb quality and nearly doubles the framerate instead of playing in 4K. Ubisoft, Capcom and Unity-Engine confirmed this.

Next year AMD will launch the first High End Card since long time.

There's a discussion since weeks about the Ryzen 3000 series Boost Clock Speed. Do they reach their clock speed or not?

Meanwhile it's clear: It's a Mobo-Bios-Thing.
