Ryzen tests

...

Tests were made with Meltdown/Spectre Bios Updates on Bios's and Windows. (Meltdown concerns only Intel, which costs up to 10% speed.)

https://www.anandtech.com/show/12625/am … 0x-2600/15

Not all Reviewers implemented those Meltdown/Spectre patches, so on some sides it still seemse that Intel is leading in most Games.

Re: Ryzen tests

...

Also Techradar approved the Performance loss with implemented Meltdown/Spectre Patches.

Zitat Anandtech:

In our benchmarks, we compared the new AMD chips to the more recent Intel chips, but with the Spectre and Meltdown patches applied.
It is clear that the patches have had an effect on some of our Intel scores more than the AMD results: combine that with AMD’s generational improvements and for a lot of tests, especially gaming, there is either a neck-and-neck result or AMD pulls a lead in multi-threaded scenarios. For anything that is hard on a single-threaded, such as our FCAT test or Cinebench 1T, Intel wins hands down, and winning the 1T tests is no easy feat, however overall AMD is pushing that performance-per-watt metric ever closer, and offering a competitive product for users that multitask.

For an industry that has had incremental updates for a number of years, they have ended up as being not so exciting. However, combining the performance-related security patches on one side, and the incremental performance gains on the other, means that the next generation of products will certainly be interesting.

...

Zitat Techradar:

Of course, one thing to note is Intel processors are possibly at their weakest state in years. Not only does the Intel Core i7-8700K have two fewer cores than AMD’s new Ryzen flagship, the Spectre and Meltdown patches have significantly impacted its performance.

The AMD Ryzen 7 2700X is undoubtedly the best consumer processor on the market right now. It’s only fair competitor ,the Intel Core i7-8700K, is slower on the single- and multi- core front and doesn’t offer much better gaming performance to justify its slightly more expensive price tag.

Re: Ryzen tests

I'm not one who takes sides about that kind of stuff, but I found this the other day:

Intel Core i7 8700K review: Coffee Lake beats Ryzen, but proves games don't care for cores https://www.pcgamesn.com/intel-core-i7- … benchmarks

Then when they were comparing them.. they had this about their gaming performance on that site:

Overall, this is a straight win for Intel. The Coffee Lake architecture’s superior single-core throughput allows it to deliver the highest frame rates across the board, almost no matter which iteration of the Intel technology you’re using.

There are games, such as Doom when running in Vulkan mode, and Rise of the Tomb Raider in DirectX 12 trim, where there is parity, but for the most part it’s all in Coffee Lake’s favour. Especially when you add in the modest frame rate the increased overclocking potential will net you.

Granted, your graphics card is going to be doing most of the grunt work at the highest resolutions, but surely you want a chip that’s going to be able to give your expensive GPU the best opportunity to shine, don’t you?

There’s also the fact the Coffee Lake chips are finally upping Intel’s core-count game - arguably at the behest of AMD - and that means future titles that take advantage of such things will benefit Intel’s silicon as much as Ryzen.

Re: Ryzen tests

...

Those tests are with Ryzen 1xxx

Today the Ryzen 2xxx were launched.

And this time they made the tests with patched Intels against Meltdown and the 3 spectre's.

AMD is only vulnerable due Spectre 1. And this patch itself don't cost any performance as the Meltdown Patch on Intel Side

You can take those tests serious. They show a realistic picture as the test from Adandtech

https://www.techradar.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-2700x

The other Reviewers made mostly the tests without patched Intels. But they will bring it in some days too.

...

Those Windows side patches came also just this month. (Windows Update is every second tuesday from the month).

(Beside the needed Motherboard Bios Fixes which have to be installed too).

...

Next year Zen 2 is coming in 7nm. (Now Ryzen 2xxx is 10nm and Intel 12nm. And those will be hardwarefixed vs. Spectre 1, (in the CPU itself). Intel will bring them 2020-2022. (Meltdown&Spectre 1,2,3). Perhaps some HighEnd Models earlyer as the, i guess, the coming unpayable 8086K.

Re: Ryzen tests

Ahhh ok. They go back and forth when it comes to which is better it seems.

Same thing with graphic cards fighting out who is better. But then you have like a dozen companies selling their custom version of the card. The crypto mining is just making the graphic cards more and more expensive. Those crypto people like the Ryzen cpu too it seems. The Best Buy down the road from the university is sold out of all the top video cards AND a lot of the Ryzen cpu. The president of my university put out a memo last year and again 2mo ago warning those who live in the dorms to not do it because they're using a shit load of power but there's a lot who do it anyway. They caught a guy running 9 systems in a tiny dorm room. Ridiculous lol.

It should be interesting to see how the cpu and gpu tech will be at the end of the year.

Re: Ryzen tests

Nono. AMD is on fire at the moment. Next year they will gain again from 12 to 7 nm.

(OK, also a bit supported by Spectre and Meldown). But the reality is as it is.

AMD had a hard time between the last 10 years. Now they are, let's say, even or just a bit below. (Let's wait the other tests with patched Intels). But next year they will fire the afterburner smile So i guess and hope. Would be good for us > deeper prices.

The new nvidia Graficcards are coming September - Oktober this year. You can count that a 1160 is as fast as the 1080 Ti or so. Like this it was in the last years.

Meanwhile we also wait until MiningHype is blown away, so the prices for graficcards will fall into cellar. (I hope a bit earlyer this year).

Re: Ryzen tests

Hehe.

8 new middle to highrisk, (4), security issues found on Intel CPU's, named Spectre NG (New Generation)

They say, some of them will cost more Performance then Meltdown.

If it will go on like this, AMD will be everywhere better, also in Games.

https://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Exclusi … 40648.html

https://borncity.com/win/2018/05/03/new … ntel-cpus/

https://www.techspot.com/news/74447-eig … vered.html

German Article

https://www.heise.de/security/meldung/S … 39302.html

I hope, that AMD is not susceptible to Spectre NG. (AMD investigate this now).

AMD was only affected in Spectre 1, not 2 + 3 or Meltdown, (which can cost up to ~10% performance).

...

If they handle it like this smile it will not take long and OEM's and more Companies will switch to AMD.

(Perhaps it was calculus, ... take it as long it's possible smile

...

Just introduce yourself, if all clouds would go down because of this security issues, when some people can really take all what they want from every Computer in this world.

I remember awhile ago I had a windows update to protect against it and my internet security had a patch... I don't think I've had performance issues... would it be slower all the time? Is there a way to check? Maybe I didn't see anything because I have AMD?

Re: Ryzen tests

Just thought i'd better share this video about the AMD Ryzen 2000 CPU's:

(thanks Arkos and others for posting and sharing here in this interesting thread, love u guys)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb_rzXHRwg0

Also, correct me where im wrong, but for the less educated:

These meltdown and spectre bugs are indeed serious BUT normal users dont worry!

These bugs are 'only' localy exploitable. Which means as long as u not run any malicious code (software) on your system you are totally fine!!!

1 don't download malicious software
2 have a decent firewall
3 block useless crap like adverts, facebook type of companies etc.
4 obey your government and make sure they have no reason to hack you
5 obey the hacker you hang out with, or else... wink

Basically what these bugs allow is; a hacker can poke around in memory area of your PC thus gain access to stuff that otherwise normally is hidden or walled off by your OS'es memory manager.

BUT... realize... it is already so easy to hack a person's system without these bugs! As long as the user downloads your malicious code or clicks YES on your link (website/email/chat program) you can install anything u like on a victims machine. A keylogger or screencapper or whatever... you be out ur credit card information or whatever anyways in such a case.

For servers or virtual boxes this is more serious... but surely the gamers here are not really doing that anyhow.

Again.. dont hang out the wrong side of town... ONLINE or OFFLINE because u might get burned. Porn sites, illegal download sites and such are notorious for such bad code. So dont go there!!! Unless of course you really know what you are doing. And simply dont do the "crime" of u cant "do the time"...

Another advise i always give to all my clients is: use your gut feeling... if u get the feeling something is up then talk to an expert that you can thrust. Tell him/her what happened, what u feel or whats going on and let them do a check-up on your system.

Same as with your car... u feel something is not right? Go to a garage... sure any mechanic can "hack your car" and "steel your wallet or naked photos from the glove compartment"... logically... dont hang out or do business with people you do not thrust.

My two cents

Re: Ryzen tests

The point is, with the needed patches, which come softwareside due WindowsUpdate, (also for the future Spectre NG Patches) the Intels have performance loss.  (Some people said they loose ~25 fps with the I5-8400 in new Games.)

The best Performance for the price is the 2600 non-x, (6 Cores/12 Threads). You can overclock it easy with 1 setting to all core 4.15 Ghz. If you don't have to look on the money, (or you play Games and stream and for Encoding then you buy a 2700 or an 2700X. (8/16 4.25 all Core)

If you only play games, you can still buy an I5-8400. It's cheap, has 6 cores, and to play games only, it's the right choice, if you can live with possible performance losses with upcoming patches.

The good thing is, you can save some additional money, because you don't have to buy expensive Memory and Mainboard.
