PC wont boot :(

Help!

I restarted my PC after uninstalling a program and now it wont boot up. It was a program I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times before with no problems! (I was updating it)

It looks like it's going to boot up it shows the windows loading bar thing but then automatically opens up a window that is just lile this one:

startuprepair1.jpg

I tried to do system restore but then it tells me to pick a drive... nothing is there! So I chose the start up repair and it says it'll take several mins but it's been like over an hour sad

Is there another way to get to system restore?

Re: PC wont boot :(

Repeatedly hit F8 from a cold boot and try and go into safe mode with network, a lot of the time this will fix any problems but you can also check to see if the program you removed is still causing a problem.

Re: PC wont boot :(

Wow shit... uuh... first thing to do is what DinkW said... try boot into safe mode.

Well actually first thing you have to do is GET EMPTY USB STICK (or memory card) and copy all files from that drive that you still really need.

If you cannot get into safe mode make a LIVE BOOT CD... any OS that allows you to (www.ubuntu.com download iso and burn on CD or USB stick) so you can grab your important files from your desktop and documents folders (and such).

Then ONLY THEN start to try to repair... 50/50 if you can repair at all. Restore is only available on SOME systems. What is the brand/type of system you use Sunshine? What is the current status? Anyone here on the forums who you can teamspeak/call with who knows how to help?

Questions:
1 do you know or have a feeling WHY this happend? What did you do in the windows session before this? Updates? Driver installs? Anything you did out of the normal? Which program did you uninstall??????? Did you google that issue?

2 do you have important files on that windows partition?

3 what brand/model/type is your system... we can find out if it suppose to have a RESTORE partition.. dont forget.. when you restore you will probably loose all data also (welcome to the world of windows).

----------------------
To make USB stick or memory card bootable from windows use RUFUS tool:
https://rufus.akeo.ie

Download a live CD here: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop … ture=amd64

Make sure you select the USB disk and not your main hard drive when you burn the iso to your memory stick/card.

Boot from the CD by the TRY UBUNTU option, this will not change your drives in any way so all your data is safe.
----------------------

God damnit i think we are too late to help her DinkW..... hope she be ok.

Re: PC wont boot :(

Start-up repair can take a long time indeed... ok you back into your system? You might want to backup important files!

What did you try to uninstall that might have caused this? Its not normal obviously... you might not be "home-free" yet!

My advise is to do a check-disk... depending on the software you tried to uninstall maybe also a decent anti-virus/trojan/rootkit/malware scan.

Check-disk you do by going to command prompt (START-RUN > cmd) then

chkdsk c: /F /X

You will have to reboot for the check to run (takes a while yes).

But if you in the system now... first thing to do is backup important files (SERIOUSLY).

Re: PC wont boot :(

The program I uninstalled was an email program. Never had problems before.

I do back up important stuff.

I don't have a virus, malware, or any other crap.

I will try check disk thing.

Re: PC wont boot :(

Email programs should indeed not cause any problems with uninstalling but it looks like it did anyway.

Often the problem you have occurs when you turn off or reset your pc while it is still starting up or shutting down. Try not to do this with windows.

Since you backup your important files and maybe do a check-disk i think you be fine. Make sure u have same version windows 7 installation CD at hand for when the system stop respond at all.

Good luck!

P.s. if u are in need of an email program the only one you should use is THUNDERBIRD: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

I don't just turn off/reset it. I did it this time because it was stuck and I couldn't do anything.

I don't like thunderbird. I've been using Postbox for awhile because windows live mail in windows 7 is shit.

Yep I agree with Bud sounds like your disk maybe on its way out.  Check disk will only find logical errors but if the error is mechanical it will not report it, does the drive tick at all?

Re: PC wont boot :(

No ticking. I'm familiar with that problem on an older pc :-/

The check disk found nothing wrong and also said "volume is good."

Also ran this SMART thing that checks hard drives health and it said it was ok. BUT it did say the temperature was a liitle high. Maybe I have to clean the pc and get dust or whatever away from the fans?

I did a full scan overnight and no virus, malware, rootkit, etc were found. Also ran malwarebytes and it found nothing. The hard drive was also defragged last week.

I have an external hard drive I use to back up important stuff from pc and laptop. I bought it to backup school related stuff and just plug in then copy and paste.

Re: PC wont boot :(

definitely clean it from dust and provide a better cooling for your computer. if you've run disk defrag and there are no viruses I don't see a problem.
you can install windows or any OS on that external hard drive aswell

True. Its always a good idea to dust out your fans and heatsinks in your computer especially with laptops.

Hard disks, mechanical ones, do run hot... nothing much to worry about.

Re: PC wont boot :(

Yeah could be overheating then, try with one fan connected at a time, you can also use some external power adapter or battery to check out a fan, 5-12 volt should be ok just to see if its runs at all.

Sometimes fans get stuck... u can "help" by spin them with ur hand a bit to see if they turn on.

In your BIOS u have settings and fan sensors possibly. Else see the mainboard software in windows for fan speed settings.

Fans light up you say? U have those fans with leds in them? If they light up it doesnt mean they should be turning. Usually fans spin up when the software or bios tells them to spin up. I (we) have absolutely NO idea what system you have so its a bit "dangerous" to just follow our advise.

Still i say a few things here:

1 if u have loads of fans in your system with leds... dont bother too much... the fan in your POWER SUPPLY and on your GRAPHICS CARD and on your CPU have to turn on.. else you have a problem to fix... the other "show fans" are not that important.. u can quite safe ignore them.

2 your initial problem is fixed... cleaning fans is fine... backup data is ALWAYS good plan...

3 if your system is not "home made" refer to the manual about the fan issue.. some systems have POTS to regulate the fan speed by hand

4 photos or system specs are really helpful in case you need help online... but i would be very careful to post too much info about your system on here. Its too late to make a shadow account... lol better PM bud or Dink or whomever you know and trust... better yet get a handy guy or girl who lives close by who knows computers to help

5 PLEASE REMEMBER... DONT FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKEN!!!!

U can use a tool like SPEEDFAN or MSI AFTERBURNER or ready made installed tools to monitor temps in your system... post here (or elsewhere) with temp results and people can tell you if your system runs abnormally/dangerously too hot or not.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner

P.s. do NOT try to overclock or anything like that at this point... i really dont like the idea that you dig into your system too much. When a computer is dusty inside and you start to unplug things and plug the thing back in the chance u get dust in places where you dont want it to be is HUGE. Please... dont dig too much if you dont have to. Dont go play too much with connectors... they do brake.. and u can quickly end up with a broken system.

Re: PC wont boot :(

Here is specs. You can see the hard drive is hottt Ususually it gets to high 50's or 60! This time a little bit more:

specs.jpg

So basically, I have 3 fans in the front of the case. I have PSU in the bottom back, there's a large exhaust fan in the back like in the center by input and output ports. There's also a small exhaust fan on the top. There's also this weird fan on the side that blows air over the motherboard. So I don't have any air going in, just air going out :-/

My CPU doesn't have fan, just a huge heatsink. The exhaust fan by the input/output is right behind that. Also, my videocard doesn't have a fan. It says it has "ZALMAN VNF102 high-performance noiseless cooler." It's been in there for a long time. It is this:

200809201729217846.jpg

I've had this PC for only a couple of years, but it's been used for like 12 years! Maybe all this is a sign to go for a new one -.- I read somewhere that prices of graphic cards and ram are really high right now and it's more economical to just buy a pre-made one, which is good because I don't have the patience nor the nerves to build one.

I don't overclock anything. I wasn't "digging in" or anything, just get dust away. I didn't unplug anything. But I did double check the cable where those fans were just to be sure.

...

Those fans won't die at the same time. it could be just a loose contact.

Are the fans connected on the Motherboard or with an MolexAdapter on the powersupply?

Those Molex Adapters can have loose contact Image BBCode test

Just control the right of those three connectore. (Where it's connected with the PowerSupply). But make it without powercord connected.

62° harddisk is very hard. Even without fans it should not be so hot. Until those problems are solved, just let your case open.

...

If those fans are connected on the Motherboard, you could install the Asus Cool&Quiet tool.

https://www.asus.com/supportonly/A8N-SL … _Download/

...

Btw. A Ryzen G2400 would be a solution.

You can just once the powercords between fans and PSU.

Does it looks like this? (Somehow?)

Image BBCode test

Also there the right connector can have loose contact.

Just disconnect the power cord, when controlling it., (disconnect and connect the Adapter which leeds/feeds the FanPowerAdapters
