Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

2004 for me. Started on the SW Demo (best demo ever made, better than that buggy MP Demo crap) with the likes of Magnus, Scorpion, crab, lachesis, Hankes, Senna/tib, Joe Kickass, Technoboy/beer and some other legendary players, some of which didn't move to retail but were nonetheless the best talents this game has ever seen (turSKA, Behemoth/Tomi, Dookie, to name a few). Great times.

Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

I don't recall exactly when I started playing BF1942, it was either 2003 or 2004, I believe it was in 2004, I will have to check it, since I still have the downloaded game stored in an old disk. I had not played any Wake Demo or Secret Weapons Demo, back then. I was downloading lots of pirated games and decided to try out this WW2 game, since it is my favorite time of history. The moment I started to play Battlefield 1942, I got hooked immediately. The ability to drive vehicles and the big maps with lots of players was amazing. And the music and sound effects were great , I remember getting pumped up just listening to the music when joining a server. I played exclusively in no-cd-key servers, because I did not buy the game (yes I am cheapo). I could sometimes connect to official servers and those were happy times. I only got a valid CD-key much later because a friend offered me the game as a birthday gift. I recall playing in a russian server, and maybe some of you russian players may remember these names: Natasha and TTT. Those were very good players, I do remember because I got killed a lot by them.

15 years have passed, time does fly by, but imo Battlefield 1942 is still a game with potential, too bad the developers (EA Games) never cared about it and followed the money.

Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

My dad played Desert Combat a lot in 2004, so he then introduced me to BF1942 & DC in 2007. Back then, I never cared about killing anyone. Instead, I would drive the humvees or tanks around and drive them off cliffs, run over bots with them, or just explore the maps, like Al Khafji Docks, DesertShield, Lost Village, you name it. I found it very fun, and still do enjoy playing BF1942/DC to this day. This will be my 10th year of playing this amazing game

Same here.
One of my principles is to never pay for videogames because its just a hobby , an entertainment and it doesnt give me benefits in the real life while it takes my time away, but still I really enjoy this game each time I play smile

I used to have same rule for anything digital. But then I simply had no job, but I still buy only very cheap games.

Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

Most people in Russia, Ukraine and other countries of USSR (Russian-speaking - no doubt, not sure about others) never pay for "digital" things - games, OS, programs, music - not because they don't have money, but because they think it all should be free big_smile And that's not a joke, it's real. Complete bullshit.

P.S. There will be hundreds of us on throughout the weekend and on Saturday, 24 hours a day. Come back one more time to relive the vintage fun and crazy moments!

This weekend will be the same as others because the game is totally dead. No one wants to play old laggy game, and no one will just because someone says it's interesting and cool.
To attract people a big work should be done in social media, there should be high quality content  created there. But no one is ready to spend time on it because it's worthless

I am not searching through the in-game browser.. I am using GameTracker, which if anything, doesn't have all the servers.

Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

I started in day one. Dont ask me when that was....

I read a news article on a famous game website that the WAKE DEMO was comming. I kept an eye on the URL for a week or so and YEPS there it was. The same day it came up i downloaded it and installed it... i fell in love with the engine AND the map. A big fat month later the retail came in the stores in the Netherlands and i bought it... just like R2R and SW later.

I modded a bit with the DC mod... joined a DC clan... oh boy i wasted a LOT of time on DICE BF1942.... and i still enjoy it.

Re: 15 Years of Battlefield 1942

I believe I've got the CD game in 2003, played for a few months always offline.
TBH, CD was in a shell untill last year when I installed it in a PC in my shop, for those moments without costumers.
Since then, play almost all day (with many costumers and phone interruptions) big_smile
Finally, 3 weeks ago, installed at home aswell to play at weekends, when wife have work shifts.
But only when is not running at TV Motors Sports wink

Cheers,
Paulo
