PING and stuff..

Hi all
Can someone explain for me why the ping is sky high even if I have got a very good connection?
The USA server I can understand but the FRA one is also like 500+.
Howcome (actually what is PING?) and is there any fault (or new recommended settings) on my PC I could adjust?
I´ve got the old proper Win 7 and never had any problem in the past with good ping on the european servers around 30
and the USA around 120.
All tricks and tips appriciated.

Ping measures the time it takes (in milliseconds) for data to be transferred from your computer to a server and back again.
A low ping is crucial to shooters to keep the gaming client in proper synchronisation with the server.
There are several things that can affect the latency (ping):
o interfering apps (downloading tools, voice/video call services)
o bad wireless signal due to a long distance to the router
o other persons that are video streaming or downloading stuff while you are playing
... and many more

No downloading, voice or video call services
Very good wireless signal and 2 metres from router
No videostreaming or any other activity than trying to play BF.
Still extreme ping. Best ping so far 1850..

LOL!! I tried to reinstall the whole game and that didn´t work. Not even able to extract the zip files after 1 hour of downloading from SIMPLE... Guess my BF42 days are over.

Wouldn't say so. Have you recently installed any other software? Have you checked the tasks running in the background? (Task-Manager)
Have you made a speed test of your connection?

Use Pingplotter to see where the problem is. Use Simple's IP without port to measure.

If you want a real speedtest i have one but it needs Firefox and Java. There you can see all instabilities, not only a average speed. (But only possible with Firefox. Chrome disabled this.)

When the test is done... Choose "All your results" > click register "Details" > and choose the time of your tests and then you see plenty details of your Inet. The link of this "All your results" is also helpfull if there are some issues. Your provider can analyze this with it. (Web100Parameters).

And use TCPOptimizer, (Run as administrator), to adjust your Inet. Use optimal Settings. You can allways restore Windows own Defaults later.

And look, that there is no traffic shaping Software running which forces Bandwidth.

Besides. It's allways better using a cable to the router. Try it first so you see perhaps where the problem is.

Also try this first...

Try to update your network driver. Download adwcleaner, you can reset winsock, tcp/ip settings with it and it cleans your PC too.

Pete, as far as I know from your IP, you are from London. Your ping highly depends on the route to the server. You can check your route via tracert command in console.

Malwarebytes is also helpfull to detect unwanted programms and troyaners, backdoors etc. and it's free.

Remind to stop old tested IP's under Register "All targets". Even if you click away a testwindow, the test goes on.

> All targets > right click on the IP > Stop tracing and close .....

While you test an connection to a Gameserver with it's IPAdresse and you see some problems as example at one HopServer, just dblclick on that HopServer. Then an additional Window opens below with further informations.

There is allways a reason, when you can't install the game. You know, for some AV Software the Installer could look suspicious, just only because not 100'000 people used it and get blocked.
