Look at the sky! Not at the sun, at the stars!!!

Just a reminder....

There is a big meteor shower going on!!! It's called the Perseid meteor shower. I can see it going on pretty good right now. Sunrise is in about 2 hours at about 6:45am so it's still nice and dark. One good thing about living up north and in the middle of nowhere is that we have no city lights to mess with our sky. Northern lights (aurora borealis) may mess with the viewing, but not too much. I've seen quite a few. It isn't like 1 or 2 random ones. It's a lot! I saw maybe 50 in 30 minutes. Many of them are just short and fast, but I've seen some pretty large ones that looked like they moved really slow. Pretty damn cool. The best night to see them will be Monday night, but they are still good now big_smile

There are some live feeds from cameras on http://www.space.com/22329-perseid-mete … ekend.html if you are interested as well.

Yah dutchy, there are many meteor showers every year. Maybe you are thinking of the comet that made this shower? It comes around every 130 years or something. But these meteors come every summer smile

There was another shower a few months ago and one in the winter. The best is still coming this December (Geminids) ^.^

Re: Look at the sky! Not at the sun, at the stars!!!

Yesterday I was in my country and in the evening I noticed that the sky was extremely clear. I've never seen so many stars in it. I just stayed and looked at them, and only when a meteor flew over my head I remembered about Sunshine's message smile Saw around 12 meteors, 4 of them were very bright and had a long tail. Their speed was crazy

Denny, did you really had in mind "astronaut"?
2b38e42dd7108047e092919abf732722.jpeg
Could be "astronomer"? smile
Although anyway my answer is not. Rather stargazer-dreamer. Now I thinking about buying a cameras with optical zoom 40-60 to take pictures of Jupiter, like at the telescope objective. Tried this with usual camera, without zoom, and was surprised, got the shot where you will able to recognize the colors of surface.

We looked at the falling stars from the bridge yesterday night. And when dropped first, reaction the girl with whom I was watching, was about: "Aaa! Here it is! Here it is!!! HERE IT IS!!! HERE IT IS!!!" big_smile
I didn't calculate count of a usual meteors, but we saw pair very glowing ones. I think at least one of them was a bolid. He was falling so long, 4 or 5 sec. At first he was a bright, then flashed even brighter and then was dimmed. That was awesome!

Here a thunderstorm now. That's great, but the stars isn't visible.
