How to improve gameplay

First of all,thanks for this server.In a time when you would think BF 1942 should be dead,this server is flourishing! Anyhow,I thought I would offer a little friendly gaming help/advice.I have been playing this game since its release.I have only been a member of 1 Clan.That server was called Blood Bath Omaha.Anybody remember us? I was a senior admin there.Good times on Omaha beach! OK.I have often been accused of being a "hacker".This post is to openly share the secret of my gaming success.I am not the best,but I am not an easy kill.High kill-to-death ratios have often made me seem "suspect".What I do is really simple actually.I am always a medic unless the situation calls me an anti tanker or engineer.I NEVER use assault.The following steps show how to improve gameplay;

1)Download/Install GameBooster3. This is a program that stops/ends any+all processes/applications being used by your computer.It also helps increase your FPS in game.

Here is a link http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

2)Here is another thing I do to increase my FPS. When a new map starts type in the following within the key logger if you have an awesome video card: renderer.lockfps 500   and make sure you press enter after you have finished typing! You will instantly notice a difference.I did.Since you aren't editing any RFA files within the game settings,this is perfectly legit and will not warrant a ban from any server.

There is much, much more but if I told you I would have to kill you LOL. Just kidding.If you need any help, just ask!

***Above all, this post is intended to help critics understand how I game without cheating.If I had to cheat,I wouldn't play this game.Whats the fun in that right? But if you can tweak your PC in fine-tuned condition,it will help you in-game***

Re: How to improve gameplay

Hi RedDawg,

I've never tried GameBooster, but I make sure to close any useless program with Task Manager before I fire up Battlefield 1942. I have an old computer and i can't have almost any program running in the background.
You can do that renderer.lockfps tweak, without typing in the console everytime you load a new map. Go to <BF1942DIR>Modsf1942Settings directory and open VideoDefault.con file with a text editor. Type your renderer.lockfps 500 command there and save it. Now your frames per second (FPS) are no longer locked at 100, which is the default cap, and it can go up to 500. Check your FPS in-game with a program like Bandicam or Fraps.
Most important thing when gaming is to have a stable ping, therefore you should not be downloading or uploading any file. If you're on a shared network, tell your brother or sister to close that peer-to-peer program, before you start BF1942. smile

1= Modem/56k
2= ISDN/128k

2.) XP Game Booster

3.) turn off Vsync in your graphic card settings

Re: How to improve gameplay

Make sure your internet connection isn't being shared.If you have a router,password protect it so your neighbors can't leech off your connection.Sounds like BF 1942 is all you have running,but do task manager and see you PC activity.Do you have your PC set to defrag once a week? There is also a sweet program that cleans up your PC and I guarantee it is virus/spyware free 100%. I have used it for years.If you want I can link you to that free download? Making sure your PC is optimized for maximum performance means alot. Do a defrag and run Cleanup....you will be amazed.You can thank me later HAHA.Good luck bro!

Denny, I would completely remove any anti-virus or firewall you have. I don't use any bloated security program, because it hogs computer resources.

Re: How to improve gameplay

Its time to buy a new computer for me. I play on 15 inch macbook pro, and its a bit exhausting for the eyes sometimes. With the settings 800 x 600 x 16 bit its ok, but when i play like 1024 x 768 x 32 bit or 16 bit i have lags sometimes. The wierd thing about bf is, that you have sometimes lags and sometimes it's ok. And this doesnt depend on the number of player which are on the server. When you restart the game or the make a complete reboot, its better sometimes. Who knows why... i also turned everything off, antivir, firewall... everything. I thought a laptop from 2010 with 4 gb ram should handle this game easily. Sucks...

Re: How to improve gameplay

I have no experience with Macintosh computers, (I despise all Apple products tongue ) but what graphic card do you have in your laptop?
You should test your frames per second (FPS) in BF1942 with a program like Bandicam or Fraps, you can see if you have low frame rate or frame drops.

Re: How to improve gameplay

Thank you, I know this. When I set 800 x 600 x 16 bit the line fps line is straight... there is maybe one small lagg every 10 sec. or something. My control panel says I have NVIDIA GeForce 9400M... Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, P8700 @ 2.53 GHz, 2.52 GHz, 2,72 GB of Ram...

Your graphic card is not that good. tongue
I would update the graphic card driver with a tweaked one or use the latest one, to see if it improved gameplay. Take a look at http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers

Hmm... if you reboot the PC and it's fine I believe it's a memory problem. Some program is eating all your free memory. smile
Your graphic card is about the same as dary's. I would install a tweaked graphic card and remove useless anti-virus and firewall.

Re: How to improve gameplay

Yes of course. You can try the program GameBooster http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html as RedDawg said.

Tell me what is your computer. For example, mine is an AMD 2600+ with 1GB of memory, Radeon 9200SE graphics card with Windows XP. Download the program CPU-Z to find out information about your computer: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Re: How to improve gameplay

For all NVIDIA graphic card owners you can download Rivatuner and NiBiTor to tweak your graphic card. NiBiTor is a bit risky, because you will have to mess with the graphic card BIOS. For ATI use ATI tray tools or ATITool and Radeon BIOS editor.
Those that have laptops, download newer graphic card drivers from LaptopVideo2Go drivers. Those that have old graphic cards can download modded drivers NGO ATI Optimized Driver or NGO NVIDIA Optimized Driver.
Tweaking your graphic card can improve your gameplay. GPU-Z is a nice little program to know all about your graphic card.

My laptop has problems to run an old game like BF1942, of course its not a good graphic card. big_smile But I thought macbooks were more powerful.
I downloaded the latest driver from NVIDIA yesterday, i think it works a bit better now. Thx

I had always problems with BF1942, sometimes everything is fluid, the other day there are lags. After a game restart or reboot its better. I think with the game is something wrong EA never managed to fix. That why EA didnt want to support BF1942 any longer maybe. I dont know...

Re: How to improve gameplay

Yes, dary. I played a bit yesterday and on some maps it was impossible to have a smooth play. I've checked the frames per second (FPS) with Bandicam and on Aberdeen my fps dropped to 10 and 20 all the time, it was choppy and jerky. On other maps, like Battleaxe and Liberation of Caen, when there were crowds of players around me it dropped a lot, too. I agree with you, I suspect it is something related with BF1942, perhaps with the players and rendering the vehicles and static objects.

Yes, but it's strange, your computer should have no problem running the game. Have you tried to lower the resolution and disable some visual settings to see if it stops the frame drops? I will test again with another powerful computer someday.

i agree with Denny. 64 should be the limit. Its fun with more but it becomes unplayable. This server used to be very smooth, one of the reasons i joined, but since the upgrade the smoothness as gone out the window. Coincidence?

Re: How to improve gameplay

all you people's lag has nothing to do with the server ... its either your pc or net connection

get a modern cpu, gpu, a proper internet connection, a proper win install and your lag will disappear

i have a new intel quadcore + a geforce 560 gtx + a fiber-connection .... and i NEVER have ANY lag at SiMPLE, even with 90+ players on

i can run loads of apps; xfire, mediaplayers, browsers, etc. etc while playing 1942 without any lag

just spend 800 euros and buy a new pc .....

its 2012, and im surprised that hardcore gamers still use weak outdated pc hardware, and then wonder why they get lag
