#1 Re: BF1942 Discussion » How to connect to simple server? » 2022-04-24 21:23:57

I have tried to make a dedicated server and have tried every combination of server and client patch and still get "Data differs from server".

The versions shown for client and server are identical. I am using the Origin client and Windows server.

Both are new installs, no other maps added.

Here is the link to all servers that is visible to the game ussing ssk´s system (and tuia´s exe files).  If you dont see your server there something is not working as it should.

It was not listed there, but I modified the host file and now it is. Pretty sure I copied his new server files over. The version reported by the server says "1.612 tuia@SiMPLE".

But this is good news. I'll have to check it in the game. Thanks for everyone's help.

{Edit}

I've checked it and it *is* now showing up, even to me on the same network. WooHoo! smile

Host file changes are not needed when you use patched BFDedServer.exe, i thought.

Tuia updated his files in the downloadsection, so if you use those files you dont have to add any IP to the hostfile

Yes, I use the new files and the external and internal are fine because I can connect to the server using internal, external, and even a domain name.

I'd just like to know whether anyone else can see my server. Funny, I used to see it all the time and can for every game I host and I do them from a server on my local network. I know I did because I always added my server in the game as a favorite and you can't do that if it doesn't show up.

if you run a server from from inside your own network (like 192.168.0.1) and a router, then you cant find it in the gamebrowser from inside that net. dunno why, its always been like that.

if you running the server like this you set it to use internal IP, 14567 and 23000 udp is the only ports you need to open, the others are more or less absolete. (unless your planning to use bfrm from outside your own net)

Yes, I've always run Bf servers from my network and always see them in the list, until now.

Maybe you can tell me then if you can find "Secret Weapons Co-Op (All Maps)" in the list.

Yeah, I go way back with BF1942. I remember playing the beta before it was released. I was always running servers. I discovered something early then that I don't think many people knew. You could run your server as "Local" and this has no effect on connecting to it from outside your network, other than the added benefit of the server not checking keys. The only thing it did was not list it in the game browser.

You need to add "Virtual Server" Section  in your Router.

Hmm... Never had to do anything like that before and hosted a lot of servers, including BF1942.

Let me ask, is the server supposed to be using an internal IP and not external?

Is there some new port that has to be forward now for servers? I cannot for the life of me get my server to appear in the game's list. I have the new 1.612 patch and I can join my server both via IP address and domain names.  I have forwarded ports:

14567 UDP
28900 TCP
14690 UDP
23000-23009 UDP

Even though I can connect manually to the server, if I try to "Add Server" in the game, it gives me an error:

Could Not Find Requested Server

I also have about 4-5 original copies of the retail CD as well as the Origin release. My client version in the game shows as 1.61. Should it be 1.612 or is that only for the patched Origin version? I can see 1.612 servers but they are grayed out and I can still connect to them, so this shouldn't prevent me from seeing my server.

Thanks

I must ask, do you run the server from your game directory or do you use the stand-alone server?

It's a standalone server.

And yes, I don't know how that extra folder got copied into the Documents folder. It was just a partial BG1942 installation, from what I saw. I guess it was missing an init.con, so it never worked.

Yes, good find. The Battlefield 1942 folder in My Documents has priority over BF1942 settings.
To get BFServerManager working correctly, you must run it with administrator rights and in Windows XP SP3 compatibility.

I don't know how the folder got there because the server was fine until I shut it down for a few minutes.

I will try that with BFSM. Thanks!

And thank you for the work you've done preserving BF1942.

Thanks for the responses. I finally figured out the issue. I discovered that somehow, another Battlefield 1942 folder had been created in my Documents folder and this was the problem. I guess whatever was there took priority over my server, which was on an entirely different drive.

Your feedback did give me tips because I thought I'd try BFSM and the first time I launched it, it told me there was another folder in Documents smile

But, as I've discovered before, BFSM will not work on my server. It seems to start but never loads maps.

The easy fix, install the server in another directory. its quicker then finding the messed up file.

I have already uninstalled and completely reinstalled into a new directory. Even without BG42 mod, I still get this error about a BG42 map.

At this point, I'm considering an entire O/S reinstall. Maybe there's a hidden folder where something is being retained, like in AppData? I didn't think mods or even the basic server did this.

Normally the Mod-Maps are not in bf1942 Folder. They should be in a "Battlefield 1942 Server\Mods\ModName" Folder.

The path is wrong.

Do you use original dedicated server or bfservermanager? Bfservermanager generates it's own files.

The paths are all correct. This had all worked up to yesterday. Nothing was changed by me.

BF1942 Server/
                Mods/
                            BF1942/
                            BG42/
                            XPack1/
                            XPack2/

That is the path structure. I use the original server. There are no mod maps in the BF1942 folder. It contains only the official 1942 maps. That is what is so strange. Even with BG42 mod completely removed, it still gives this error, even after a new installation.

I host a dedicated server on my own hardware with Windows 7 O/S. It has been working great until yesterday.

I have the Battlegroup 42 mod installed. I can run the server and it works fine. I can connect to it from a client and it is perfect. The problem is, it will host only one map: 4107-dnieper_river. It does not matter which maps I put in the server list, it will always launch the same map. If I issue a "NextMap" command in the console, it will restart the same map.

It does not matter what maps are in the maplist.con, it will run the same map.

I can't run any mod other than BG42, not even vanilla BF1942. If I try the server errors stating:

Level init.con file not found: bf1942/levels/4107-dnieper_river/Init.con

This is usually caused by a missing map.

Please make sure the level exists and is spelled correctly in maplist.con.
For Linux servers make sure all paths are lower-case.

That would appear to display an error in the map 4107-dnieper_river, but it is the only map that will run. All maps in all mods are all lower-case. The map is obviously not missing because it works.

I have completely removed the Battlegroup 42 mod and the same error persists. I have completely uninstalled the server and reinstalled everything from scratch and it gives exactly the same error. Even if you edit the maplist.con and put one map there, it still loads only dnieper_river.

This has certainly left me scratching my head.
