Yeah, that may be the exact update but I can't be sure.  Installing Vanilla Win7 and it works fine.  My problem is I'm entirely on Ubuntu 16.04 now, so is anyone else running BF from linux?

BEWARE:  If you're running Win7 and the game works, stop updating the OS.  It looks like they're trying to push people over to 10.  Not that the game would work in 10 anyway, but I can't say that for sure.

The game works fine in 10 been using it for some months now.

To fix your game in 7 try this:

Open a command prompt with Admin access and then type the following commands pressing ENTER after each one:

sc config secdrv start= demand
sc start secdrv

I can confirm that it was in fact that very update.  I tried the CL commands and it worked!!  Thank you Dink!

Definitely not a graphics card issue.  Same setup, with and without updates.  Without it works and with all latest it does not.  It simply fails to launch.  Nothing changed originally when the problem began except Windows updates and the AMD drivers were the latest.

Well, it seems at -=Ax=- was saying, that our beloved game was on life support.  So one day, after a slew of Windows 7 Updates (I refuse to go higher with that crap of an OS) I cannot launch my game anymore, nor 2142 for that matter.  This is a direct result of recent updates to Win7, and nothing else.  Has anyone else run into this?  It could just be me, but I don't think so.  I have loaded the game on a laptop without updates and it works just fine.  Now I'm interested in running a Linux server on my own with the support of SiMPLE and/or -=Ax=-.  Black mamba or tuia, and anyone else feel free to reach out if this sounds like a cool idea.

Sincerely, PizzatheHut.

#5 Re: Technical Help » ServerManager v2.01 constantly crashing (restart loop) » 2015-08-24 13:22:00

I'm glad it worked.  Mine does that too, but after the first crash, it stays up.  Unless you know Linux, the learning curve in setting up the Linux OS is quite high.  There are too many little variables and nuances with Linux that make it a pain in the arse to deal with.  I wouldn't run dedicated or ded32.exe and then BFSM, since server manager is based off both files anyway and starts them.  Just let it have that first failed start, then run with it.  Provided that you have windows already installed like nearly everyone, there is no overhead aside from your internet connection which you'll have with Linux anyway.  Windows is no more expensive than Linux for running the server, and I have done both for nearly 10 years.

That is a constant and familiar issue and I have run into that many times in running the software myself.  I have found that for me, the problem is fixed by clicking on 'options' and unchecking the box that says 'restart the server automatically.' It may still crash a couple of times with an initial server popup and updating of game settings, but it should stay up, atleast it does for me.  Try that first anyway.  (PS. A good habit to get into after a successful start or change to settings, is to click on 'save' and "settings," "export server settings" so that you can always reload them later)

I am seeing these errors:

7/8/2015 20:47:32 : Server has a popup, terminating
7/8/2015 20:47:32 : Server is in a restart loop, disabling auto-restart.
7/8/2015 20:47:32 : Couldn't take a module snapshot! Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed. (299)
7/8/2015 20:47:32 : Server stopped
7/8/2015 20:47:32 : Disconnected

I have turned off Windows Hard Popups, run exe as admin, checked the firewall, and I'm stuck but still researching.  I know I ran into these errors years ago and I want to say PB has something to do with it but I don't totally remember how I fixed it.

Thx for the assist guys.

I'm interested in the LOTR Mod, and am bringing my old server back online for the game again.  I modded before but nothing on the order of this complexity.  However, if anyone is still interested in this let me know and maybe we can get started on this.

Yeah, I'm coming back into the 1942 fold and I'm bringing my daughters with me.  Btw, is anyone still playing 2142?  I'm resurrecting my 1942 server and thinking about building another 2142 server as well.
PS.  Why does the random American soldier in 1942 always look like Nicholas Cage?  (I mean, the acting ability is kind of similar).  smile
