I have my joystick bound to vehicle movement (as well as the arrow keys). When I need to move slow, I just nudge the joystick forward.

In the UI, a 600 ping gets the last zero chopped off and shows up at 60. Are you sure your ping is 600?

#7 Re: BF1942 Discussion » things that affect your bf42 plane » 2018-12-05 21:59:40

I think rememberExcessInput is just for mice. It allows the control surface to remain at full deflection while the mouse is picked up and moved back.

#8 Re: BF1942 Discussion » things that affect your bf42 plane » 2018-12-05 09:46:10

Placebos and other physiological effects do effect performance, no doubt.

#9 Re: BF1942 Discussion » things that affect your bf42 plane » 2018-12-05 00:04:47

The amount of time it takes to swing a joystick can definitely be significant. If we look at the spitfire's roll controls:

ObjectTemplate.setMinRotation 0/-30/0
ObjectTemplate.setMaxRotation 0/30/0
ObjectTemplate.setMaxSpeed 0/120/0

There's a rotation range of the control surface of 60°. The maximum rate you can deflect it is 120°/s. So It can be deflected from full roll right to full roll left in 0.5s. If it takes you longer than 0.5s to move your joystick from full right deflection to full left deflection, a smaller joystick would help. Larger flight sim joysticks/yokes and rudder pedals fit into this category. I'm pretty sure setMaxSpeed is in degrees/sec, but it wouldn't hurt to check that in game.

I remember i was using 1.6 FOV for my first years of flying( read on somesite that 1.6 FOV can give you 16:9 effect cause i didnt know about full HD patch ) and i had no chance mostly because opponent could always outturn me

For FPS i cant record since recorder limits frame , but if you test it  you will notice a small difference

I assure you, it's a purely visual effect. You can turn on stats to see the numbers yourself if you like.

The other factor is Field of view ,the default value is 1 ,the higher it get the more view you get (1.3 1.4) but also you may have slower turn speed and slightly higher speed ,the lower value 0.9 0.8 gives you very sharp turns ,but limits your view

FPS ,this factor has little effect on your plane speed
High and STABLE FPS lets you fly better and have higher speed gives you less lag ,it also makes you a bit harder to hit since you move a bit faster , this is true on inf as well, (that’s why we see some player with very low graphic)

Internet Quality
This one has direct effect on everything also on planes ,a guy with decent internet and well synced with server has a bit better speed than other players ,a guy with bad net sees opponent very hard to catch  also vise versa ,usually the guy with a good internet has both good speed and good regs together , he is also harder to hit (applies to inf also)

Server

This one is kindda related to previous one but server with more lags slows you or you see your opponent plane “bouncing to front” which means there is a problem between you and server ,

There are some other little factor but I didn’t tell them not very important

You are certifiably insane. The client is merely sending movement packets to the server. So long as the server receives the movement packets, all will be fine. If more than 3 are dropped in a row, you'll start to lose throttle and your plane will slow down. Dropping 3 movement packets in a row is a sign of a really shitty connection, a shitty overloaded system, or both. You can turn netstats on to see how you are doing in this area. All the stuff you are seeing is placebo.

The plane control surfaces have a maximum response speed. It's pretty "slow". You can check it out by using the external view. So long as your control, whether it be keyboard, mouse, or joystick, can outpace the maximum response speed, you're fine.

See:

http://bfmods.com/mdt/scripting/ObjectT … Speed.html
http://bfmods.com/mdt/scripting/ObjectT … ation.html

And again, if you're on a shitty connection and drop movement packets, you won't be able to deflect as quickly.

game.joinServer <host> <isInternet>

Not sure what the two arguments on connectToServer are. You'd probably just have to experiment. Pretty sure game.joinServer only works on startup, but game.connectToServer works anytime.

#13 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Some useful (and not so useful) console commands I tested » 2018-11-06 09:45:32

game.packetDropRatio is only for debug. It randomly drops a percentage of outgoing packets which is almost never what you want.

I have one of those ONT things in the garage but I don't know if it was on or not.

Originally for FiOS, Verizon would only install a battery backup on your ONT if you had purchased FiOS-based phone service with them.  Presumably because of their concern for local regulation regarding 9-1-1 service, and being able to make an emergency call even when the power was out.  (As compared to legacy copper service, which was powered over the phone lines themselves.)

FiOS no longer provides a battery backup.  The technicians tell you "it's not needed any more", but I think all it really means is Verizon's lawyers finally figured out they were not compelled to provide one.  While true that "it doesn't need one", without one your phone service IS going to go out when the ONT loses power.

I still have the Verizon UPS on my residential service, and just replace the batteries on it myself when needed.  They installed a business line of service here too without a UPS, and so I had to put my own UPS on that second ONT.  If you have a UPS on your ONT, it will be inside the garage near where ever the ONT is plugged into AC power.  If you don't have one there, maybe that's another place to consider adding one.

-Trench

If you don't have phone, don't bother with the ONT's built-in UPS. It only powers Internet and TV for a few minutes and then reserves the bulk of the capacity for phone. I just plug my ONT into an external UPS.

You can use a clamp meter if you can borrow one from somewhere, a good electrician will usually have one, to find the current being drawn and then do the maths to work the wattage.

You need an AC line splitter to use a power clamp, since total current through neutral and hot is zero. At that point it's much easier just to get a plug-in watt meter (such as Kill-A-Watt).

bfsmd is linked with a super ancient version of libproc, and it uses it rather poorly. That's where the "Internal Error!" comes from. I don't think it effects the functionality though.

Here's a detailed paper that describes the BF1942 networking model: https://archive.org/details/tribes-networking-model

The only major difference is that the Datablock manager is replaced by static data that is verified to match on the client and server.

BTW, the new server must be at a really good hosting center, connection is rock solid:

--- 163.172.13.221 ping statistics ---
15 packets transmitted, 15 received, 0% packet loss, time 14018ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 142.085/142.671/143.661/0.646 ms

Oooo!!! Please shate if you find out how to use the little top thingy to look around. That would be mighty handy!

I experimented with that, you have to hit the look button and then apply a certain amount of mouse. While you technically can do that with joystick scripting programs, it felt like cheating (on many servers key scripting *is* considered cheating). And plus, you can't fly while looking anyway. Much better just to assign the hat button to different views.

If you search the forum, you'll find your answers smile
Read this topic http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic. … 262#p15262, it has been answered before.
After you download and install BF1942 server v1.61, you'll need to download BF1942 Linux hacked files to v1.612 from s[sk], which you can find them mentioned here: http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic. … 9237#p9237

These binaries have symbols, neat!
